PORTLAND, Ore.– The Nevada women's volleyball team clinched another thrilling five-set victory, this time against Portland State (25-23, 22-25, 12-25, 25-23, 15-12) at Viking Pavilion. The win, which marks the Wolf Pack's second consecutive five-set triumph, propels them to a 2-1 record in the preseason tournament.
Head Coach Shannon Wyckoff-McNeal has now become the first coach in Nevada volleyball history to own a winning record after the first three games in charge of the program, demonstrating her immediate impact and leadership.
Nevada's offense was led by junior outside hitter Gabby McLaughlin, who delivered a standout performance with 19 kills and a .312 hitting percentage. Carissa Chainey was also in double digits, contributing 15 kills.
Defensively, Kinsley Singleton shined with 27 digs, the second-most by a true freshman in Nevada program history. Singleton's defensive prowess, combined with Nevada's strong blocking game, which registered 11 total team blocks, disrupted Portland State's offensive flow and secured the victory.
The match was characterized by intense back-and-forth action, particularly in the decisive fifth set. Nevada displayed resilience, with key plays from McLaughlin and Snyder, ensuring that the Wolf Pack emerged victorious in another nail-biter.
With this win, Nevada builds significant momentum as they continue their preseason schedule. Next week they will travel to Bakersfield, California for the Roadrunner Classic. The Wolf Pack aims to maintain their winning streak and further solidify their position under Coach Wyckoff-McNeal's guidance.
