PORTLAND, Ore. – The Nevada women's volleyball team achieved their first victory under new Head Coach Shannon Wyckoff-McNeal, defeating the University of San Francisco in a thrilling five-set match (25-19, 29-27, 18-25, 25-21, 16-14) at Viking Pavilion in Portland, Oregon. This victory marked a significant milestone for the program, demonstrating resilience and determination in a tightly contested preseason match.
Nevada's offensive efforts were spearheaded by senior outside hitter Gabby McLaughlin, who contributed 18 kills and a .237 hitting percentage. Carissa Chainey and Bella Snyder also had strong performances, adding 14 and 10 kills respectively. Setter Tehya Maeva distributed 42 assists positively impacting the Wolf Pack offense. The Wolf Pack showed consistency in their attack, finishing the match with a .250 hitting percentage.
Defensively, Nevada was solid, with Kinsley Singleton leading the team with 23 digs, while Gabby McLaughlin added 9 digs and a critical service ace in the fifth set. The Wolf Pack's blocking game was also a key factor, as they registered 13 total team blocks, disrupting San Francisco's offensive rhythm.
The most notable moment of the match came in the second set, where Nevada battled through multiple set points, ultimately winning 29-27. This marked the first time Nevada had scored over 29 points in a set since the 2022 season, when they scored 31 points in a thrilling third set against CSUN.
Nevada will look to build on this momentum as they continue their preseason schedule. The Wolf Pack's next challenge will be against Portland State tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Viking Pavilion.
