Herrera named Mountain West Co-Player of the Year as Nevada racks up honors

RENO, Nev. – Gabby Herrera's historic season for the Pack earned her the Mountain West Co-Player of the Year title, the first conference Player of the Year award in Nevada Softball history. Five other members of the Pack received All-Mountain West Honors.
 
In 22 conference games, Herrera hit .352 with eight home runs and 30 RBI. Rounding out the slash line, Herrera recorded an on-base percentage of .402 and slugged .761 for the Pack in conference play. Herrera's eight homers were joint-lead in the Mountain West and her 30 RBI were second most in the league. Overall, Herrera hit 16 home runs and tallied 64 RBI on the season, both Nevada single-season records. Herrera shared the Player of the Year title with San Diego State's Mac Barbara and was also named to the All-Mountain West First Team.

Interim Head Coach Marina Demore spoke on Herrera's impact saying "Gabby offensively has left her mark in Nevada Softball. Her ability to hit any pitch for power makes her one of the best in the country. I'm proud of her success and she played a major role in building Nevada. So proud of her!"
 
Joining Herrera on the All-Mountain West First Team were Chelie Senini and Aaliyah Jenkins. Senini hit .345 in conference play with a team-leading 29 hits. Senini scored 22 times for the Pack in conference play, along with her
conference-leading 16 stolen bases. Senini has now received First-Team honors for the fourth time in her career.
 
A. Jenkins earned her second career First-Team honor leading the team with a .415/.466/.892 slash line. Jenkins tied Herrera for the conference lead in home runs with eight, including her series-sealing home run at San Diego State on April 27. Jenkins also recorded 21 RBI while scoring 22 times and hitting 7 doubles in her 21-game conference slate.
 
Haley Painter, Bridgette Gilliano, and Blake Craft all received All-Mountain West second-team honors, rounding out the Pack's six honorees.
 
Painter, a redshirt sophomore, hit .313 in all 22 conference games for the Pack. In addition to her 21 hits, Painter reached base 19 additional times via walks and hit-by-pitches, earning her a .465 on-base percentage. Painter tallied six home runs and five doubles for a .657 slugging percentage. Painter is tied with Herrera with 16 overall home runs this season, the most in a Nevada season.
 
Earning her first career Mountain West award, Gilliano played a key role in the Wolf Pack lineup combining speed with power. Gilliano hit .389 with 28 hits, including 4 doubles and 4 home runs. Gilliano's eight stolen bases were second most in the conference, only behind her teammate, Senini. Gilliano tallied 16 RBI and slugged .611 in conference games.
 
Representing the Nevada pitching staff, Craft finished the season with 3.44 ERA in conference games, throwing 55.0 innings for the Wolf Pack. Six of Craft's ten conference starts were complete games including two shutouts. Craft struck out 38 batters and only allowed a .266 batting average against with her 6-4 record.
 
The Pack carry their awards into Boise, Idaho for the Mountain West Championships where they will face Colorado State at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning. Follow the Wolf Pack's tournament run here with the Championship Page.
