RENO, Nev. - The Nevada Basketball program and Head Coach Steve Alford have officially announced the addition of Justin McBride, a 6'8", 230-pound forward who spent last season playing for Oklahoma State.
"Justin is a young and athletic big who is very skilled," said Alford. "He can play inside the paint and on the perimeter with his ability to shoot. He has a big and physical body that fits our system perfectly. Justin has to proven to be an exceptional student in the classroom and he is a high character individual."
McBride joins Kobe Sanders, Brandon Love, Xavier DuSell, and Chuck Bailey III as the fifth transfer player to sign with Nevada ahead of the 2024-25 season.
As a freshman at Oklahoma State this past season, McBride was the youngest active player in the Big 12. He appeared in 24 games off the bench throughout the season for the Cowboys, averaging 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 52.1 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from behind the arc.
McBride was exceptional offensively inside the arc, as he converted 70.4 percent of his attempts from 2-point range throughout the season (19-27). He scored a career-high eight points on 3-7 shooting from the field, including 2-4 from behind the arc in Oklahoma State's 85-70 win over Sam Houston (11/12/23). Five days later, McBride scored four points and grabbed two rebounds in a narrow two-point overtime loss to Notre Dame (11/17/23). He followed up that performance with a six-point, two-rebound outing while making a perfect 3-3 shots from the field in a 96-68 victory over New Orleans (11/20/23).
McBride pulled down a career-high five rebounds in 17 minutes of action in the Cowboys' 92-65 victory over Houston Christian (11/24/24). In conference play, he had his best offensive performance against No. 8 Kansas (1/30/24), as he scored five points on 2-2 shooting from the field. McBride had another strong performance in Oklahoma State's regular season finale against No. 20 BYU, scoring four points and pulling down four rebounds.
Originally from Plano, Texas, McBride was rated a four-star recruit by both Rivals and 247sports. He spent part of his high school career at well-renowned Oak Hill Academy (Va.), before returning to Texas to finish his career at Plano High School. As a senior at Plano High School, McBride was named First Team UIL All-State, in addition to being one of nine players named to the inaugural THSCA 6A Boys Basketball Super Elite Team.
On the AAU Circuit, McBride competed for Drive Nation on Nike's EYBL Circuit where he averaged 13.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game during the summer of 2022. He had a sensational outing at the Peach Jam Invitational, averaging 16.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. During 2021, he was named the MVP of the Pangos All-American Camp.
McBride will have three years of eligibility remaining with Nevada.
