RENO, Nev. – For the second time this season, the Nevada Wolf Pack (5-11, 1-2 MW) were forced to play a man down, forfeiting a singles point and faced with a severe disadvantage in the doubles session.
Â
Unlike the first time the Pack played with five players, Nevada did not upset their opponents to win the doubles point. New Mexico dominated both doubles matches, eventually winning on court two.
Â
Georgio Samaha and Nicola Recoura traded the first four games with
Loris Zisswiller and
Edgar Destouet before pulling away from the Pack. The Lobos duo broke Nevada twice to win the match, 6-2. Alex Maggs and Arda Azkara won the first three games on court one before
Matheo Coupu and
Youssef Kadiri held back-to-back service games. The top-flight match was abandoned 5-2 in favor of the Lobos.
Â
With Nevada forced to forfeit on court six, New Mexico held a 2-0 lead at the start of the singles session.
Â
Aram Noroozian opened the door for Zisswiller in the beginning of each set before slamming it shut on him. Norzoozian and Zisswiller held their serves until the opening set was tied 3-3, then Noroozian held again, broke Zisswiller, and won the set on one final hold. Zisswiller won the first game of set two before Noroozian won six of the final seven games, winning 6-3, 6-2.
Â
Samaha clinched the dual for New Mexico with a three-set victory over Destouet on court four. Samaha jumped out to a large lead before allowing Destouet back into the first set. Samaha, up 4-3, won the final two games to take the first set. Destouet battled back, earning a key break to take a 5-4 lead. Nevada's Junior transfer held his serve to win the second set. The deciding set was all Samaha, taking a 3-0 lead before allowing just one game to Destouet, winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
Â
At the conclusion of the dual, Azkara led Coupu 7-6 (3), 3-2 on court one. Kadiri was just a game shy of a victory on court three, leading Arthur Bellegy 6-4, 5-4. Finally, on court five, Rafael Abdulsalam led
Rémy Trégourès, 6-3, 4-3, when the dual was called.
Â
Next week, Nevada takes on two more ranked opponents with away matches at Utah State on Friday, April 12 and Boise State on Sunday, April 14. Both matches will start at 10 a.m. PT.
