RENO, Nev. - Nevada ace
Jason Doktorczyk was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
It's the third conference weekly honor of the season for the Wolf Pack, and second week in a row, after
Nolan Wilson captured the player of the week honor last Monday.
Doktorczyk earned his first Mountain West honor on the strength of yet another gem of an outing in Friday's 18-4, series-opening victory over San José State. The Seal Beach, Calif. , native matched his career high with 12 strikeouts, allowing just two runs (one earned) on five hits over seven innings. The win improved his record to 4-2 on the season.
For Nevada, the win led off a fourth series victory in Mountain West play, and kept the Pack perfect at 3-0 in conference series at home, with March 28-30's rubber game against Air Force still to be resumed April 26 at the Academy.
Taking two of three from the Spartans improved the Pack to 9-8 in Mountain West play, keeping Nevada in the top four of the conference standings for a spot in May 23-26's conference championship.
Nevada hosts No. 5 Oregon State in a two-game midweek set Tuesday and Wednesday at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park, with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. each day. From there, the Pack resumes conference play with a three-game series at UNLV beginning Friday night.
