AZUSA, Calif. – The Wolf Pack kicked off their weekend in Southern California at the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific, and the Pacific Coast Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State.
Bryan Clay Invitational
Valeria Paez Rueda got things going for Nevada in Azusa, starting the weekend in the first couple of events in the heptathlon C section. In the 100-meter hurdles, Paez Rueda placed eighth with a time of 14.87, beginning the morning sitting in eighth with 859 points heading into the high jump. In the high jump, Paez Rueda claimed tied for eighth with four other athletes from Idaho, Sherbrooke, Vanderbilt, and Washington State with a mark of 1.61 meters. After two events, Paez Rueda sat in ninth place with 1,606 points.
In the shot put, Paez Rueda tied for seventh overall (10.73m). In the fourth and final event of day one, Paez Rueda ran a time of 26.24 in the 200 meters, wrapping the day in 11
th with 2,183 points ahead of the second and final day.
Pacific Coast Invitational
Kicking off the day in Long Beach,
Claire Nelson and
Natalia Martino represented the Pack in the 3000-meter steeplechase, placing second and third overall running new personal records. Nelson (11:03.27) saw a four second personal record while Martino (11:05.54) saw a massive improvement to drop 11 seconds from her previous best.
Sarah Marske secured a 10
th place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.78, just off her personal record of 13.72 and her fifth all-time mark in school history in the event.
The Pack continues action in Southern California with the second day of the Bryan Clay Invitational and the first day of the Beach Invitational. Live results for both meets can be found
