RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada Men's Basketball program and Head Coach Steve Alford have officially announced the addition of Kobe Sanders, a 6-foot-8, 205-pound guard who spent the past four seasons competing for Cal Poly.
"Kobe is a versatile big guard who is a proven scorer," Alford said. "Kobe is very skilled and he has the ability to defend multiple positions. We are very excited to have Kobe joining our program."
Sanders is the Pack's first transfer addition this offseason, and he joins freshman signee Caelum Harris as newcomers to the Wolf Pack program ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Sanders had an exceptional season for Cal Poly this past year. Appearing in and starting 29 games for the Mustangs, Sanders earned All-Big West Honorable Mention honors after averaging 19.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game, while holding clips of 45.9 percent shooting from the field, 33.9 percent from behind the arc, and 87.4 percent at the free throw line.
An elite scorer, Sanders reached double figures in scoring in all 29 games he appeared in for the Mustangs, including scoring 20+ points in 13 different contests, and pouring in 30+ points in six games.
Sanders ended the season on an exceptional stretch for Cal Poly, as he scored 22+ points in each of the Mustangs' final five games, including dropping 30 or more points in three of the five contests. He scored a career-high 35 points against UC Riverside (2/24/24), knocking down 12-19 shots from the field, 2-5 from behind the arc, and 9-10 at the free throw line.
Sanders etched his name into the Cal Poly record books with his sensational season, as he finished second in single season program history with 174 made free throws, third in points (568), and seventh in points per game (19.6). Sanders also eclipsed the 1,000-point scoring mark for his career in Cal Poly's season finale against UC San Diego (3/9/24)
In the 2022-23 season, Sanders appeared in 24 games for the Mustangs while making 20 starts. He posted averages of 7.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game, while shooting 35.5 percent from the field and 77.8 percent at the free throw line.
Throughout his four-year collegiate career thus far, Sanders has appeared in 100 games and he holds career averages of 10.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game with clips of 41.1 percent shooting from the field, 32.4 percent from behind the arc, and 79.3 percent at the free throw line.
Originally from San Diego, California, Sanders attended Christian High School where he was an All-Eastern League First Team honoree his senior year after averaging 16.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
Sanders will have one year of eligibility remaining with Nevada.
