RENO, Nev. - Scarlett Ferris and Frederica Kizek will head to Athens, Georgia for the 2024 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships following their record breaking performances at the Mountain West Championships in Houston last month. This is the first time Nevada has qualified two swimmers to the NCAA Championship Meet since 2015.
"The NCAA championship meet is one of the most competitive swim and dive meets in the world and it is an absolute honor to be represented," said head coach Brendon Bray. "We are so proud of Frederica and Scarlett!"
Ferris will represent Nevada in the 100 backstroke, an event that she broke the Mountain West, championship meet, and program record in with a time of 51.49. Ferris' time broke the previous conference record from 2014 by 0.43 seconds. On top of her record breaking performance, she is currently seeded 13th heading into the NCAA meet which makes her the highest ranked mid-major athlete in the event.
Kizek had a record-breaking performance in the 1650 freestyle in the form of a new program record with a time of 16:11.82. Her 1000 split time, 9:45.80, now ranks as the program's best time breaking a nearly decade long reign set by Hall of Famer Menjiao Mi. Kizek has been invited to the meet to compete in the 1650 freestyle and is the third highest ranked kid major athlete in that event. Also having achieved the "B Cut" standard in the 500 Freestyle and the 400 Individual Medley, Kizek will represent the Wolf Pack in 3 events in Athens.
