Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Pack dominate Portland State, defeat Vikings 6-1

RENO, Nev. – Nevada Women's Tennis defeated the Portland State Vikings 6-1 in a midweek non-conference match. The Tuesday victory put the Pack back in the win column after dropping three Mountain West matches in a row.

Nevada jumped ahead early, winning the doubles point in a split session. The Wolf Pack's Amahée Charrier and Anastasia Luneva gave Nevada the early advantage with a 6-2 victory over Capu Sanoner and Scarlett Perkins on court one. The Pack clinched the doubles point on court three with Kennedy Robinson and Mia Miranda's win over Elizabeth Strongina and Makoto Ohara, 6-4. The Vikings earned a consolation victory on court two with Nika Beukers and Momoko Yoshimura defeating Marlene Foerster and Léa Cakarevic, 7-6 (5).

Luneva quickly added to the Pack lead defeating Yoshimura 6-2, 6-0 on court four. Luneva broke Yoshimura to open the match and again late in set one before sweeping the second set.

Another top-flight victory from Charrier put Nevada ahead 3-0. Charrier defeated Strongina 6-3, 6-1, including a key break midway through set one, as well as three more in set two.

The Wolf Pack clinched the dual on court five with Robinson's 6-3, 6-3 win over Ohara. Each set started close with both sets beginning 4-3 in favor of Robinson, before Nevada's standout freshman closed out Ohara with a break in each frame.

With the dual clinched, Foerster and Beukers played a 10-point tiebreaker in place of the third set. Foerster took the lead in the tiebreaker and never looked back, defeating Beukers 6-4, 5-7, [10-5].

Courts three and six started their third sets prior to the dual clinching, meaning both matches played out. Cakarevic put Nevada ahead 6-0 with her 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win against Perkins. Sanoner closed the dual, earning Portland State's only point with a 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 win against Lou-Anne Guerbert.

The Wolf Pack return to action at home with two Mountain West duals this weekend. Nevada hosts Colorado State at noon on Friday, March 29 as well as Fresno State at noon on Saturday, March 30. Early fans at Friday's match will receive University of Nevada 150th Anniversary t-shirts. Admission for both matches is free.
