Gilliano’s grand slam rallies Pack to a comeback win over Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Bridgette Gilliano's seventh inning go-ahead grand slam ignites Pack to an extra inning offensive comeback in opening series against the Rams.
 
Colorado State got on the board first with a double steal at second and at home putting the Rams up, 1-0. Brown struck out the following batter then gave up an RBI single, the Rams extended their lead to two. Colorado State added their final run of their three-run first inning scoring on a wild pitch.
 
The Pack and Rams were held scoreless until the top of the fifth inning with Chelie Senini reaching on an error and Matlyn Leetch scoring, putting up the Pack's first run of the game.   
 
The Pack retired the side in order in the bottom of the fifth with a ground out and two leaping catches to Gabby Herrera in right field.
 
Haley Painter crushed her eighth home run of the season over the right center field wall to put the Pack within one.
 
The Rams added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, extending their lead 5-2.
 
Charli Hawkins drew the four pitch, leadoff walk in the seventh. Maile Olsen struck out but Bailie Clark drew another four pitch walk to put two on with one out. Painter drew the third walk of the inning to load the bases, bringing up Bridgette Gilliano. Gilliano crushed her second home run of the season in the form of a go-ahead grand slam and the Pack takes the 6-5 lead headed to the bottom of the seventh.
 
The Rams tie the game up in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extras.
 
The Pack batted through the entire order in their first inning up in extras, starting with a leadoff home run from Taryn Jenkins, giving the Pack an early extra inning, 7-6 lead. Aaliyah Jenkins reached base on a walk, then stole second. Haylee Engelbrecht came in to pinch hit but struck out. Olsen drew a four pitch walk and B. Clark laid down a bunt to load the bases. Senini singled through the right side scoring A. Jenkins and extending the Pack's lead in the eighth inning. Painter finds the other side of the field with an RBI single through the left side scoring Olsen. A bases load walk to Gilliano adds to the Pack 10-6 lead, scoring B. Clark. T. Jenkins comes to the plate for the second time in the inning delivering with a bases clearing, three RBI double, to complete the Pack's seven-run eighth inning.
 
The Rams weren't able to capitalize in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Pack the 13-6 comeback victory.
 
Carley Brown got the start in the first game of the series. Brown went six innings, struck out one, walked one, and allowed four runs on eight hits.
 
Tyra Clary came in in the seventh inning pitching two innings. Clary struck out four, walked three, and held the Rams to one run on three hits.
 
Notables:
  • Chelie Senini passed Kym Silagyi for sole possession of the third most hits in Nevada history (228)
  • Bridgette Gilliano's seventh-inning, two-out go-ahead grand slam was the first grand slam of her career.
  • Gilliano tied her career high in RBI with five.
  • Haley Painter recorded her third career three-hit game.
  • Painter reached base four times for the third time in her career.
  • Taryn Jenkins tallied four RBI, tying her for the seventh most RBI in a single season in Nevada history (47).
  • T. Jenkins' four-RBI game is the fifth game of the season with four or more RBI.
