Nevada splits first week of conference play, falling 4-0 to Spartans

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – A dominant San José State performance drops the Wolf Pack to 1-1 in conference play, splitting the opening week of Mountain West play.

The Spartans opened the dual by winning a split doubles session, earning the early 1-0 advantage. Irena Muradyan and Cheuk Ying Shek showed their top-flight capability in a quick 6-2 defeat of Nevada's Amahée Charrier and Anastasia Luneva. The Wolf Pack won the court two match with Léa Cakarevic and Marlene Foerster edging out Carolina Millan and Jovana Babic in a long tiebreaker, defeating the Spartan pair 7-6 (6). San José State clinched the doubles point on court three in another tightly contested match. Rozalina Youseva and Duru Durgun took advantage of a key break to defeat Kennedy Robinson and Wiem Boubaker, 7-5.

San José State added their three singles point quickly, allowing no more than five games in any of their three victories. Muradyan defeated Lou-Anne Guerbert 6-3, 6-2 on court two. Guerbert's loss was her first-ever result playing outside of the third flight for Nevada.

On court five, Babic defeated Luneva 6-3, 6-0 to add the Spartans' third point, quickly followed by Durgun's 6-1, 6-2 victory over Robinson to clinch the dual for San José State, 4-0.

At the abandonment of the dual, Charrier led Millan 6-4, 3-4 on court one, as did Boubaker, who led Youseva 6-3, 3-4 on court four. San José State's Ying Shek led Foerster 7-5, 2-4 when the dual was called final.

The Wolf Pack stays on the road with two away matches next week. Nevada will travel South to UNLV for its Silver State Series matchup presented by America First Credit Union. The match in Las Vegas is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 22. The Pack will then head southbound on Interstate 15 for a match at San Diego State on Sunday, March 24 at noon.
