Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Nevada women’s basketball holds on to win at Air Force

USAFA, Colo. - After Air Force tied the score heading into the fourth quarter, Nevada women's basketball held on to defeat the Falcons 62-56 at Clune Arena at the United States Air Force Academy Wednesday night.

Guards Audrey Roden and Victoria Davis led Nevada in scoring with 13 points each while fifth year guard/forward Kaylen Banwareesingh and sophomore forward Kennedy Lee led Nevada on the boards. Banwareesingh tallied double-digit rebounds in the first half and finished with a season-high 14 boards, just two shy of her career-high. Lee collected her third double-digit rebound game with 10 boards to go with eight points.

After trading baskets in the opening period, Nevada scored five unanswered points to snag a two-possession lead. Baskets by junior guard Kaylee Borden and Lee with 51 seconds to play gave the Wolf Pack a nine-point advantage, but a late bucket from Air Force trimmed Nevada's lead 20-14 after 10 minutes.

While Banwareesingh was dominating the boards in the second quarter, she was also lifting the Pack with her scoring. A second chance basket from the Bronx, New York, native put the Pack ahead by eight halfway through the second quarter. She obtained her 10th rebound of the game with 3:28 left to play in the first half.

Following another layup by Borden, freshman guard Izzy Sullivan knocked down a jumper to go with a Davis free throw that put the Pack ahead 34-25 at halftime. Air Force climbed back to draw even with Nevada by outscoring the Pack 18-9 in the third quarter.

Learning the lessons of protecting leads earlier in the season, Nevada took control of the lead and the game in the final period.

The Pack quickly got going with a Lexie Givens layup following a steal and began the fourth quarter with eight unanswered points. Air Force cut the deficit within five thanks to a 3-pointer from Air Force standout Milahnie Perry, but Nevada quickly responded with baskets from Roden and freshman guard Dymonique Maxie

A Borden layup off an Air Force turnover allowed Nevada to move ahead 59-50 with less than one minute to play in the period, but Perry scored the Falcons' next six points to cut the deficit to four points with 16 seconds left. Davis knocked down a pair of free throws after drawing the foul and Nevada forced Air Force to miss its final shot to secure the road win.

Nevada returns to Lawlor Events Center after a weekend off on Wednesday, Feb. 14 against San Diego State for Pack Goes Pink and National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Kids eighth grade and under wearing their sports jerseys can purchase a discounted ticket for the game here.
