RENO, Nev. – Six Nevada swimming and diving athletes earned All-Mountain West honors across 12 events announced by the conference Wednesday.
The All-Mountain West selections are compiled of top-eight finishers in each event.
Scarlett Ferris earned her first Mountain West honors from her first place podium finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.49, breaking the Mountain West, meet, and school record. Ferris broke the conference record previously set in 2014 by San Diego State's Anika Apostalon with a time of 51.92. Nevada's previous record was 52.69 from Nevada's
Josien Wijkhuijs in 2022. Ferris finished eighth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.04. Ferris also finished eighth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.73.
Lucia Gabino earned honors after making the finals in all three diving events. In the 1-meter, Gabino placed fifth with 314.40 points. In the 3-meter, Gabino placed fifth with 300.55 points. Gabino has never made it to the platform finals until this year where she placed fourth with 297.10 points.
Frederica Kizek earned her first Mountain West honors following a dominant record breaking performance in the 1650 freestyle. Kizek's time of 16:11.82 is now the new program record and her 1000 split time of 9:45.80 also ranks as the programs best time with both previous records from Nevada's Mengjiao Mi in 2013. Kizek placed second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:44.85, placing her second in program history. Kizek also saw the podium in the 400 IM with a second place finish with a time of 4:13.61, sitting third all-time in Nevada history.
Sara Mihalic earned her first Mountain West honors following a top-8 finish in the 200 breaststroke. Mihalic finished seventh with a time of 2:16.11.
Melissa Mirafuentes is not a new face to the all-time list, earning nine previous honors between Nevada and Wyoming. Mirafuentes earned a spot in all three diving event finals with her highest finish coming in the 3-meter with a score of 363.75, now sitting seventh all-time in the 3-meter event. Mirafuentes also saw the podium in the platform event, placing third with a score of 310.60, second highest score in program history.
Yasmin Perry earned her first conference honors with a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:57.85, holding the third fastest time in program history. Perry finished fifth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.26, placing her third all-time at Nevada.
