RENO, Nev. - Nevada Athletics is pleased to officially announce JaVale McGee Day. Set for Saturday, March 9, the day will be dedicated to legendary Nevada Basketball player JaVale McGee.
JaVale McGee Day will serve as a day of recognition for the former Wolf Pack basketball star, as he makes his return to campus for the Nevada Basketball game against intrastate rival UNLV. McGee was inducted into the 2023 Nevada Athletics Hall of Fame Class this past October, and he will be recognized during the contest against UNLV as part of his induction into the Hall of Fame.Â
The most decorated former athlete in the history of Nevada Athletics, McGee played for the Pack from 2006-2008. During his time with the Nevada program, McGee earned numerous accolades for his exceptional play. McGee was named Second Team All-WAC in 2008, in addition to being named to the WAC All-Defensive Team. Throughout the 2007-2008 campaign, McGee led the Pack and ranked second in the WAC in rebounding (7.2 RPG), while also leading the conference in blocks per game (2.79 BPG).Â
McGee turned professional after the conclusion of the 2008 season and was selected by the Washington Wizards with the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.Â
McGee has since gone on to have a sensational professional career, as he is a three-time NBA Champion, winning titles in 2017 and 2018 with the Golden State Warriors, before securing his third Championship in 2020 with the Los Angeles Lakers. McGee is also an Olympic gold medalist, as he competed for Team USA at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, helping the team compile a 5-1 record and capture the USA's fourth consecutive gold medal.Â
