Wolf Pack fall to Gaels 4-1, split the weekend

MORAGA, Calif. - Nevada Women's Tennis lost its Sunday morning match at Saint Mary's, 4-1. The dominant display from the Gaels drops the Wolf Pack to 2-2 on the season. 

The Pack lost the doubles point for the second time in as many days. Saint Mary's lead was spearheaded by Juliette Daries and Tian Yu Dong's quick defeat of Amahée Charrier and Anastasia Luneva. Daries and Dong held a 4-0 lead before the Wolf Pack duo pulled back a pair of games. The top-flight match finished 6-2, favoring Saint Mary's. Nevada tied the session with a victory from its second pair, Léa Cakarevic and Marlene Foerster. The pair of Nevada newcomers lost the first two games but won six of eight to win the match, 6-4.

Saint Mary's Sofia Daryaie and Stefanie Silva closed out the doubles session. Daryaie and Silva traded games with Kennedy Robinson and Mia Miranda until the Saint Mary's pair broke Nevada, giving them the lead for good. 

Saint Mary's doubled their lead with Iman Khan's rout of Nevada's Charrier. Khan won the first eight games of the match, dropped two to Charrier, and then claimed the final four games, winning 6-0, 6-2. 

Daryaie tacked on another point for Saint Mary's with another dominant win for the Gaels. Daryaie opened her victory over Miranda with a 5-0 lead. The Saint Mary's freshman also picked up the final four games of the match, defeating Miranda 6-2, 6-1 in the sixth flight match. 

The only bright spot in the Nevada singles lineup came from Kennedy Robinson's 6-3, 6-3 win over Rook. Robinson, down 3-2 in the first set, won her final four games to win the first set. Robinson jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second frame before trading service games until she broke Rook for a 5-2 lead. The two traded breaks to end the match, 6-3, 6-3. 

Silva clinched the match for the Gaels with her 6-4, 6-2 victory over Luneva, winning the final five games to seal the dual win, 4-1. 

The second flight match, Dong vs Foerster was abandoned following the clinch, 6-4, 6-5 with Dong leading at the conclusion. Daries led the fourth flight match against Cakarevic, 6-1, 6-5 when the match was finished early.  

Next week, the Wolf Pack travels to Tucson, Arizona for a match at No. 43 Arizona as well as a neutral dual against Western Michigan. Nevada match against Arizona is currently slated for 1 P.M. on Saturday, the match against Western Michigan is scheduled for 10 A.M. on Sunday.
