HOUSTON, Texas – Nevada wraps up the 2024 Mountain West Championships in fifth with 854.50 points, 32 points behind Fresno State. The Pack is leaving Houston, Texas with new program records in four events: 100 backstroke, 1000 freestyle, 1650 freestyle, and the 400 medley relay.
The final night of championships opened with the 1650 freestyle with
Frederica Kizek representing in the A final. This event marked Kizek's final collegiate swim event, and she concluded her swimming career as a Mountain West champion in the event, while also breaking the school record in the 1000 and 1650 freestyle. Her time of 16:11.82 broke the previous 1650 program record set by Mengjiao Mi in 2013, by 7.5 seconds. Kizek's time is an NCAA B Standard time. Kizek's 1000 split, 9:45.80, now ranks as the program's best time, breaking a nearly decade long reign from Mengjiao Mi.
Scarlett Ferris secured the eighth place finish in the 20 backstroke with a time of 2:03.73 and
Molly Von Seggern in the 13th place, personal best time of 2:00.11.
The Pack was able to secure points in the 100 freestyle with
Colette Berkenfield placing 16th with a time of 51.77.
Evie Floate rounded out with a 23
rd place finish and a time of 51.74.
Sara Mihalic placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:16.11 and
Anslee Dickerson 21
st with a time of 2:19.75.
The 200 butterfly had five Pack contenders with
Yasmin Perry securing the silver medal with a time of 1:57.85.
Audrey Bull and Evie Wood competed in the B finals with a personal best time from Wood (2:02.33) in the 14
th spot and
Audrey Bull in the 16
th (2:04.18).
Olivia Stevenson and
Caitlin Smith rounded out the event in 23
rd and 24
th. Stevenson had a time of 2:07.82 and Bull with a time of 2:08.63.
Pack diving had representation in the platform diving finals in
Melissa Mirafuentes and
Lucia Gabino. This is the first time Gabino has qualified to the platform finals, and just fell out of the top three with a fourth place finish and 297.10 points.
Melissa Mirafuentes visited the podium with a third place finish and 310.60.
The championships concluded with the 400 freestyle relay, and the Pack finishing eighth with a time of 3:26.04.
