Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Nevada completes 4-3 comeback victory

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Despite losing the doubles point and being down 3-1, Nevada Women's Tennis won its final three singles matches, defeating Santa Clara 4-3.

The doubles session quickly favored Santa Clara with the Broncos holding 5-1, 3-0, and 3-1 leads to begin doubles play. Santa Clara took care of its leads, with Jenna Marie Gordon and Velizara Fileva winning the top-flight doubles match 6-3. The doubles point was sealed by the Broncos with their third flight win from Kacey Feng and Gabriela Tevez, defeating Kennedy Robinson and Lou-Anne Guerbert, 6-4.

Nevada's number two, Marlene Foerster quickly tied the dual defeating Finley Kalinic 6-2, 6-1. The German native broke Kalinic five times en route to her victory.

Santa Clara claimed the next two matches, pushing their lead to 3-1. Gordon swept the day at the top of the lineup with her 6-2, 6-4 win over Nevada's Amahée Charrier. Varya Zlotnik doubled the Broncos' lead following her 6-3, 6-3 victory over Léa Cakarevic.

The Nevada comeback began in the third flight with Guerbert's boisterous win over Fileva. Despite dropping her first set 6-2, Guerbert won 12 of the next 16 games, including six return games. Guerbert brought the Pack within one point with her 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory.

When it looked like Tevez would run away with her fourth flight match against Anastasia Luneva, Nevada's Russian senior broke Tevez three times in the second set to force a final set. Luneva and Tevez traded service games until Luneva broke Tevez to take a 5-4 lead in the decisive set. Tevez responded with a break of her own, not allowing Luneva a point in her own service game. However, Luneva once again won a return game, taking the 6-5 lead before sealing the victory within a service game. Luneva tied the dual with the 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 win.

With the dual tied, the sixth flight match between Robinson and Santa Clara's Maria Antonova was the deciding result. Antonova won the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5). The tiebreaker loss powered Robinson to seven breaks and winning 12 of 14 games in a row, defeating Antonova for the Wolf Pack win, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-1.

Nevada returns to action tomorrow with a short drive to Moraga for tomorrow's match at Saint Mary's. The match is scheduled for 10 A.M, live results can be found here.
