Wolf Pack ends skid with 4-3 victory at GCU

PHOENIX – Nevada Men's Tennis earns its second victory of the season, and first in a month, with close 4-3 win over the GCU Lopes.

The Wolf Pack gained the early advantage, winning the doubles point, the team's fifth of the season. Nevada's second pair, Rémy Trégourès and Loris Zisswiller, opened the session with their 6-1 defeat of GCU's Paolo Rosati and Pablo Salvador. Nevada's 1-0 lead was clinched with a top-flight victory from Matheo Coupu and Youssef Kadiri, beating Gerhard Sullwald and David Wekesa, 6-3. The Lopes looked to pull back a match however the third flight was abandoned with GCU's Wyatt Anderson and Jonathan Da Silva leading Edgar Destouet and Greg Valente, 5-4.

Nevada added two more points to the dual score with victories from the top of the lineup. Coupu was awarded the flight one victory over Salvador when the GCU player was forced to retire in the second set. Coupu's victory finished 6-4, 4-2, ret.

In the second flight, Kadiri was challenged early, winning his first set 7-5 against Sullawald, but managed a 6-3 second set win for the 7-5, 6-3 overall victory.

GCU's Wekesa spoiled Zisswiller's perfect weekend, however the Nevada senior did not go down without a fight. Wekesa won the first set in a tiebreaker, winning 7-6 (4), before he ran away with the match, winning the second frame 6-2.

Nevada's Destouet earned his first singles win for the Wolf Pack with his 6-3, 6-4 win over Alfred Almasi. The Pack's third singles win clinched the dual for Nevada, ending their six-match losing streak.

Despite the dual being clinched, GCU tacked on two more points with a pair of three-set victories. Rosati defeated Nevada's Trégourès 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 while Anderson defeated Valente 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, ending the dual with a 4-3 scoreline.
