SAN JOSE, Calif. - Four different players scored 12+ points, and the Nevada Men's Basketball team shot 52.6 percent from the field, including a sensational 57.1 percent from behind the arc, as the Pack exploded for 50 second half points on their way to an 84-63 road victory over San José State.
Following the victory, Nevada improved to 22-6 overall this season, including a mark of 9-5 in Mountain West play. The 22 wins by the Pack matches the program's win total from last season, with four regular-season games still remaining.
Nevada was exceptional on the offensive end of the court, particularly during the second half. Throughout the entire game, the Pack recorded 22 assists on 29 made field goals, their second-highest assist total in a game this season. Nevada scored 32 points in the paint, and the Pack scored 15 second-chance points off 13 offensive rebounds.
Nevada was truly remarkable on offense in the second period, as the Pack scored 50 points on clips of 64.0 percent shooting from the field (16-25) and 75.0 percent from behind the arc (9-12).
Defensively, Nevada was nearly as impressive as they were on the offensive end of the floor. The Pack limited the Spartans to just 63 points on 39.7 percent shooting from the field and 34.6 percent from behind the arc.
Nevada received tremendous performances from a plethora of different players, as the victory was a complete team effort.
Nick Davidson led the way for the Pack, as he scored a game-high 23 points on a near perfect 8-9 shooting from the field, including 2-2 from behind the arc. Davidson also pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds, as he recorded his sixth double-double of the season and his fourth in the Pack's past seven games.
Jarod Lucas had another highly impressive performance, scoring 20 points on 7-12 shooting from the field, 2-4 from behind the arc, and a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line. Lucas also recorded a team-high two steals throughout the game.
Hunter McIntosh had arguably his best game in a Wolf Pack uniform, as the fifth-year senior came off the bench to drop 18 points, knocking down six 3-pointers on nine attempts. The six 3-pointers matched a career-high set in 2022 before he joined the Nevada program, and the 18 points scored match his highest scoring output as a member of the Wolf Pack program.
Tre Coleman had an all-around sensational performance, as the senior forward nearly recorded a triple-double. Coleman scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out eight assists. The nine boards match a career-high, and the eight assists mark the second-highest single game assist total of his career.
Kenan Blackshear did not have his best scoring output, as he put up only four points; however, Blackshear recorded a game-high nine assists, in addition to pulling down five rebounds. Blackshear's nine assists mark the second-most that he has tallied in a game this season.
Daniel Foster only took two shots throughout the contest; however, the senior guard was immaculate on the glass, as he pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds in the game. Foster completed the contest with a game-high plus/minus of +23 in 27 minutes of action.
Nevada never trailed during the contest and held the lead for 38 minutes and 44 seconds of the game.
First Half
Nevada got off to an incredibly fast start, reeling off a 7-0 run to start the game. The Spartans won the opening tip; however, the Pack picked up a defensive stop, and K.J. Hymes buried a left-handed hook shot at the other end of the court. After another stop, Coleman found Lucas behind the arc, and Lucas proceeded to bury a 3-pointer.
Nevada forced another turnover after Lucas' 3-pointer, marking their third consecutive stop to commence the game; and, Hymes knocked down a pair of free throws, as the Pack took a 7-0 advantage just one minute and 25 seconds into the game.
San José State responded with five consecutive points, trimming the Pack's lead down to two points with 17:36 left in the first half.
Just over a minute later, Lucas recorded a steal and proceeded to dish a pass to Foster, who finished a contested layup through contact at the rim, as Nevada pushed their advantage up to four points. Davidson made a lone free throw shortly after, extending the Pack's lead to five points.
SJSU drained a 3-pointer at the 14:29 mark to get within two points of the Pack; but, Coleman scored back-to-back buckets in the paint, expanding Nevada's lead to 14-8 at the 13:07 mark.
The Spartans hit another 3-pointer after Coleman's second bucket; however, Nevada responded, as Blackshear and Lucas scored consecutive buckets, pushing the Pack's lead to seven points with 11:25 left in the period.
San José State continued to battle back, scoring five straight points to get back within two points of Nevada with under 10 minutes remaining until halftime.
The two squads continued to go back and forth; and, every time Nevada aimed to pull away, the Spartans fought back. The Pack entered the break with a 34-29 advantage.
Second Half
SJSU struck first in the second period, finishing a layup on their first possession to cut Nevada's lead down to three points.
Davidson responded for the Pack on the other end of the court, as he buried a 3-pointer off a beautiful pass from Blackshear, giving Nevada a 37-31 lead with 19:38 left in the game.
The Spartans scored again shortly after, cutting Nevada's lead down to four points; however, Blackshear made another stellar pass, this time to Coleman, who knocked down a 3-pointer to expand the Pack's lead up to seven points.
San José State countered in a massive way, as they ripped off a 7-0 run to tie the contest at 40 points apiece with 16:08 on the clock, marking the first time the game was tied since it was 0-0.
The two squads traded buckets and found themselves deadlocked at 42-42 with 15:27 remaining.
With their backs against the wall on the road in a tied contest, Nevada showed incredible resilience and poise. The Pack took complete control of the contest, as they began to light it up on offense and take their defense up a notch, resulting in an incredible 42-21 run to close out the game.
Tied up at 42-42, Lucas sparked an outstanding run for the Pack by draining a mid-range jumper off a pass from Coleman, as Nevada recaptured the lead with 15:13 to go. After a defensive stop, Coleman recorded another assist, as he found Davidson in the lane, and Davidson finished a layup at the rim.
Shortly after, Coleman recorded a steal on defense and Davidson scored in the paint once again, as Nevada took a six-point lead with 13:12 on the clock.
The Pack got another stop on defense, and on the other end of the court, McIntosh drained a 3-pointer, giving Nevada a 51-42 edge. Just over a minute later, McIntosh drilled a second consecutive shot from behind the arc, as the Pack took a 12-point lead with 10:51 remaining, marking Nevada's first double-digit lead of the contest.
The Pack picked up another stop on their next defensive possession; and, McIntosh buried another 3-pointer, marking a personal 9-0 run for the fifth-year senior in the midst of a 15-0 run by the Pack.
Nevada continued to pour it on, as back-to-back 3-pointers from Davidson and Lucas gave the Pack a 69-51 lead with just 5:47 to go in the game. Nevada went on to outscore the Spartans 15-12 over the remainder of the contest, pushing on to earn the impressive 21-point road victory and sweep the regular-season series over SJSU by a combined 51 points.
