Pack loses 5-2 at No. 22 Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - Nevada Men's Tennis drops its sixth dual in a row, falling to 1-6 in its non-conference slate. 

The Wolf Pack gained an early lead over No. 22 ranked Arizona State, winning the doubles point. The Sun Devils dominated the third flight doubles match, Max McKennon and Nicola Cigna defeated the Wolf Pack's Edgar Destouet and Greg Valente, 6-2. 

Nevada's doubles comeback began with Loris Zisswiller and Rémy Trégourès dropping their first two games before winning six of the next eight to seal their 6-4 victory over Jacob Bullard and Roi Ginat. The point advantage was sealed with Nevada's top pair, Youssef Kadiri and Matheo Coupu, defeating Murphy Cassone and Martin Vergara 6-4. The Wolf Pack duo ended on a 5-2 run to close their match. 

The Nevada lead didn't hold as Arizona State won three straight singles matches to bring the dual score to 3-1. The Sun Devils' streak began with Daniel Phillips' quick victory over Valente, 6-0, 6-1. Phillips broke Nevada's sophomore five times in six opportunities, tying the dual at 1-1.

The top of the lineup added to Arizona State's advantage with the Sun Devils winning both flights one and two. McKennon defeated Nevada' Coupu, 6-1, 6-2, also breaking his opponent five times throughout two sets. Nationally ranked Cassone traded games with Kadiri early in set one, with the opening frame being tied 3-3 at one point before the No. 9 player in the country won the final three games of the set. The second set favored Kadiri, leading 2-1, however, Cassone won the next five games to win the match, 6-3, 6-2. 

Continuing his winning streak, Zisswiller was the only highlight of Nevada's singles session, defeating Bullard 6-4, 6-2, including a streak of five straight games. Zisswiller's victory brought the Pack within one, however the Sun Devils clinched the dual shortly after. 

Ginat and Cigna finished the dual with two more points for Arizona State. Ginat was challenged in the first set against reigning Mountain West Freshman of the Week, Trégourès, with the set tied 5-5 before Ginat won his service game and broke the freshman for the set. Ginat won the final five games of the match, winning 7-5, 6-2. Cigna and Destouet traded games the entire match however, Cigna won two key breaks, one in each set to earn the 6-3, 6-4 victory.
