RENO, Nev. - Tre Coleman scored a game-high 20 points on 7-12 shooting from the field, Jarod Lucas poured in 19 points while eclipsing the 2,000-point scoring mark for his career, and the Nevada Men's Basketball dominated Wyoming on Tuesday evening, as they earned an 18-point victory over the Cowboys.
Following the win, Nevada improved to 21-6 overall this season, including a mark of 8-5 in Mountain West play.
The victory snapped a seven-game losing streak to Wyoming, and the Pack ended the skid to the Cowboys in commanding fashion, as they led for 38 minutes and 43 seconds throughout the game.
After allowing a season-high 98 points to the Cowboys in the first matchup between the two squads in January, Nevada was tremendous on the defensive end of the court Tuesday night, limiting Wyoming to just 58 points on clips of 41.7 percent shooting from the field and 26.3 percent from behind the arc.
The Pack forced Wyoming into 15 turnovers, and Nevada recorded four blocked shots and 12 steals.
Offensively, Nevada scored 76 points on 48.1 percent shooting from the field and 46.7 percent from behind the arc. The Pack recorded 19 assists on 26 made field goals, and Nevada knocked down 11 3-pointers, matching their highest total in a Mountain West game this season.
Coleman was sensational for the Pack, scoring a game-high 20 points while burying 4-7 shots from behind the arc and 7-12 shots from the field. Coleman also dished out four assists, recorded three steals, and tallied one block, while earning a plus/minus of +21 in 35 minutes of action.
It was an unforgettable night for Lucas, as the fifth-year senior eclipsed 2,000 points for his career late in the second half after knocking down a pair of free throws. Lucas completed the game with 19 points on 4-9 shooting from behind the arc and 7-8 at the free throw line, while also grabbing three rebounds.
Nick Davidson chipped in 11 points on 4-8 shooting from the field, in addition to pulling down five boards and recording two steals.
Kenan Blackshear had an all-around stellar night for Nevada, as the fifth-year senior scored 10 points on 4-6 shooting from the field, dished out a game-high eight assists, pulled down six rebounds, and recorded two steals.
Nevada trailed for just 18 seconds throughout the game, and the Pack led by as much as 29, as they controlled the contest from start to finish.
First Half
Blackshear commenced the scoring in the contest, as Lucas hit him with a beautiful pass, and he finished an easy layup at the rim to give Nevada a 2-0 lead 59 seconds into the game.
Wyoming responded with a 3-pointer 15 seconds later to take a one-point lead; however, that marked the Cowboys only lead of the game, as Coleman drained his first 3-pointer of the night on the Wolf Pack's next possession to give Nevada a lead that they would never relinquish.
Blackshear extended the Pack's lead up to 7-3 on a Blackshear mid-range jumper at the 17:42 mark. The Cowboys knocked down a lone free throw just over a minute later to trim Nevada's lead down to 7-4 at the 16:33 mark.
The Pack then took complete control of the game, as they reeled off an incredible 30-12 run over the next 12:44 of game time.
Coleman sparked the immaculate run by draining his second 3-pointer of the half off a pass from Davidson, extending Nevad's lead up to 10-4 with 16:11 left in the half.
The Pack then proceeded to knock down four consecutive free throws, as they built a 10-point advantage.
Wyoming scored three straight points to cut Nevada's lead down to seven points; but Coleman drilled another 3-pointer to push the lead back up to 10 points, as Nevada held a 17-7 advantage with 12:57 remaining in the half.
The Cowboys responded with a 3-pointer; however, Coleman found Tyler Rolison open behind the arc and Rolison splashed another 3-pointer for the Pack, as Nevada extended the lead back to double digits.
After a lone free throw from Wyoming, Nevada scored four straight points to take a 13-point edge with 9:06 remaining.
The Pack maintained a double-digit advantage over the next 1:48, before putting together a 10-0 run over a three minute and 29 second stretch to build a 21-point lead. The run began with a massive two-handed slam from Daniel Foster in transition. After the dunk, Foster recorded a steal on defense and the Pack turned it into a 3-pointer on the other end, courtesy of Davidson. Shortly after Davidson's 3-pointer, Lucas buried a triple of his own. Blackshear then finished a layup in the paint, concluding the run and giving Nevada a 37-16 lead with 3:49 left in the first half.
Nevada outscored Wyoming 7-5 over the remainder of the half, as the Pack took a 44-21 lead into the break.
Nevada shot 53.6 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from behind the arc in the first half, while limiting Wyoming to abysmal clips of 26.1 percent shooting from the field and 16.7 percent from behind the arc over the first 20 minutes.
Second Half
Nevada started off the second period in exceptional fashion, as Davidson and Lucas drained back-to-back 3-pointers and Nevada built a 50-21 advantage with 18:19 left in the game, marking their largest lead of the contest.
Despite the massive deficit, Wyoming battled back, as they managed to trim the Pack's lead down to 16 points with 11:31 remaining.
Nevada quickly pushed the advantage back up 20 points after Davidson flushed a dunk and Lucas drilled another shot from behind the arc, as the Pack held a 58-38 lead with 10:13 left in the game.
Nevada maintained at least a 15-point advantage over the 4:25; and, with 5:48 on the clock, Lucas was fouled on a mid-range jumper and went to the free throw line just two points shy of reaching 2,000 for his career. Lucas proceeded to bury both shots at the line, as he accomplished the incredible feat.
The Pack went on to earn the dominant 76-58 win over the Cowboys and secure their 21st victory of the season.
