Hornets best Pack 5-2 in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Wolf Pack falls short in back-and-forth dual despite winning the doubles point.

Following its 5-2 win over UC Davis, Nevada Women's Tennis drops to 1-1 with a 5-2 loss to Sacramento State.

The Pack won the doubles point with the results split, 2-1. Each team earned a dominant victory with Sacramento State taking the No. 2 match while Nevada won the No. 3 match.

The Hornet's Madelyn Ferreros and Irene Riva made quick work of the Pack's Marlene Foerster and Léa Cakarevic, only dropping one game in their 6-1 victory. Nevada's Lou-Anne Guerbert and Kennedy Robinson returned the favor with a 6-2 win over Mayya Gorbunova and Reese Walker, tying the session a one a piece.

The Wolf Pack came out on top, clinching the first point of the dual with a comeback victory from sophomore Amahée Charrier and senior Anastasia Luneva. The Pack's No. 1 doubles team trailed by multiple games before sealing the come-from-behind 6-4 victory over Weronika Ejsmont and Best Lee.

Sacramento State struck back, winning the first singles match. Lou Baudouin tied the dual 1-1 with her 6-3, 6-3 win over Cakarevic in the No. 5 match.

Charrier quickly regained the lead for Nevada, defeating Gorbunova in a second-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

Ejsmont came out on top of Guerbert 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, tying the dual once again at 2-2.

The final three singles matches went deep into the third set. The Hornets were able to capture two of the three victories for the dual victory.

Sacramento State took a 3-2 lead with Riva's 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Robinson in the No. 6 match.

Ferreros was responsible for the Hornet's fourth point with a nail-biting win over the Pack's Foerster. Nevada's German native won the first set 6-4 but fell in the second set 6-3 to Ferreros. The decisive set was tied 6-6, forcing a tiebreaker which Ferreros prevailed in, winning the match 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6).

Although the dual had been decided, the No. 4 match was played out, adding the Hornet's fifth point with a 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 victory for Walker over Luneva.
