Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Shorthanded Nevada falls to Oregon 6-1

EUGENE, Ore. - Despite a strong opening and winning the doubles point, Nevada gets swept in the singles session, losing 6-1 to Oregon.

Due to a Matheo Coupu injury vs Memphis, Nevada entered the match at Oregon down to five players, forcing the Pack to forfeit both a doubles and a singles match.

Playing a man down, the Pack were unfazed jumping out the gates in the doubles session. Needing to win both doubles matches, Junior pair, Edgar Destouet and Youssef Kadiri traded games with No. 31 Matthew Burton and Quinn Vandecasteele. Destouet and Kadiri broke the ranked Ducks, shifting the momentum in the Pack's favor. Nevada won the final three games, winning the No. 1 match, 6-4.

At flight two, Freshman Remy Trégourès and Senior Loris Zisswiller climbed to a 4-1 lead over David Cierny and Ray Lo. The Ducks battled back, winning four of the next five games, tying the match at 5-5. Nevada's French duo closed out the match winning two straight, including a break, to win 7-5 and clinch the doubles point.

The singles session opened with Oregon's Lenn Luemkemann being gifted the forfeit win for the Ducks, tying the dual 1-1.

Tight matches up and down the singles lineup forecasted a competitive slate before three Ducks pulled away in set one.

Flights four and five began close, trading matches, however Zian Vanderstappen and Burton each won their first set against Trégourès and Greg Valente, respectively. Both Ducks ended their opening frame on multi-game streaks. Burton won the No. 5 match 6-3, 6-1 over Valente with a quick, decisive second set. Despite a valiant comeback attempt from Trégourès, Vanderstappen won the No. 4 match 6-3, 6-4.

At flight two, Cierny showed to be dominant throughout his match against the Pack's Destouet, never looking back and winning 6-2, 6-3. Cierny's victory earned Oregon's fourth point, clinching the dual for the Ducks.

Nevada's strongest singles matches came at flights one and three. Kadiri, coming off his ranked doubles victory, faced No. 93-ranked Vandecasteele at the No. 1 match. Kadiri and Vandecasteele swapped matches winning their service games until Vandecasteele broke Kadiri in the final game of the set, winning set one 7-5. Vandecasteele took the reins of the match during set two, winning 6-3 and adding Oregon's fifth point with the 7-5, 6-3 win.

The No. 3 match, between Zisswiller and Vlad Breazu needed a tiebreaker to decide the back-and-forth first set. Breazu prevailed with a 7-6 (4) win despite Zisswiller opening the tiebreaker 2-0. Breazu took his set one victory and ran with it, only allowing one game in the second set, winning the match 7-6 (4), 6-1 for Oregon's sixth and final point of the dual.

Next week, Nevada will face its second of three Pac-12 opponents on the 2024 schedule, traveling to Salt Lake City, Utah to take on the Utah Utes. The match is currently scheduled to start at 1 P.M. PST. You can follow along by watching the live stream or by following the live results.
