Wolf Pack fall in four sets at Air Force

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Nevada Volleyball loses its sixth straight contest at Air Force, Saturday.
 
The Falcons came out swinging, opening the match on 8-2, including a six-point run, forcing an early Nevada timeout. The Wolf Pack began chipping away at the Air Force lead, utilizing kills from Sia Liilii and Carissa Chainey during a 5-2 run. Nevada continued their offensive bursts making a 7-2 run featuring kills from four different players, showing the Pack's offensive depth. Air Force returned to the offensive forefront, winning three straight points, driving Nevada to call their second timeout. Out of the huddle, two Bella Snyder blocks led a four-point streak, bringing the Pack within one point. After trading points back and forth, the Falcons reached set point thanks to a Jordan Suan ace. However, the Pack won three straight points with blocks and kills from Liilii and McKenna Dressel. The Falcons ultimately won the opening frame after an Anna Leahy kill.
 
Out of the set break, Air Force opened another set strong, taking a 5-1 lead. Once, again Nevada pulled the set back, tying the game at 8-8 before taking a 12-9 lead after a McKenna Dressel kill. Air Force went on a 5-1 run, regaining the lead. Both sides traded points until Air Force went on a four-point run. Despite a late comeback attempt from Nevada, Air Force held onto the set, winning 25-22.
 
For the third straight set, Air Force took a commanding lead. This time, Ashley Bible earned two aces on the Wolf Pack serve receive defense, taking a 4-0 lead. The Wolf Pack responded with a 10-3 run, topped off with a Dressel solo block. Nevada and Air Force rallied back and forth until the Pack held a 18-16 lead. Nevada capped off their set win with a 7-1 run, including three straight Gabby McLaughlin kills.
 
Set four remained tight for a while, with neither team holding a lead larger than two until Air Force's three-point run gave them a 12-9 lead. Nevada cut away at the Falcon lead, even taking a 19-18 lead in the set thanks to errant attacks from Air Force. The Falcons went on another three-point run, taking a 21-19 lead until Nevada tied the set on a Liilii kill. Air Force finished the set on a 4-1 run, winning the set and sealing the match.
 
McLaughlin led the Pack with 22 kills, her second highest career tally. Liilii notched a season-high 13 kills for the Pack, hitting .265 on 34 attempts. Dressel totaled five total blocks, matching her figure from Thursday at New Mexico. Finally, Tehya Maeva did it all for the Wolf Pack. Maeva recorded 42 assists, her second most in Mountain West play this season, 15 digs, a season-high, five kills, two aces, and a block. Nevada falls to 4-10 in Mountain West play.
 
The Wolf Pack return home for the final homestand of the season, hosting San Diego State on Thursday, November 14 at 6 p.m. in Virginia Street Gym. Nevada will then host Silver State rivals UNLV for the season home-finale and senior day on Saturday, November 16 at 12 p.m.
