Nevada Volleyball Earns Hard-Fought Win Over San Diego State

RENO, Nev. --Nevada Volleyball snapped their losing streak with a determined 3-1 victory against San Diego State at Virginia Street Gym, improving to a 12-14 overall record and 5-10 in Mountain West Conference play. The Wolf Pack showcased resilience and strong teamwork throughout the match, marking a significant win as they head into their last home match of the season. 

The Wolf Pack set the tone early with McKenna Dressel recording the first kill of the match, contributing to an early 5-2 lead bolstered by an ace from Sierra Bernard. A powerful solo block by Carissa Chainey at 12-10 and a service ace by Kinsley Singleton at 16-12 helped Nevada maintain momentum. Bella Snyder's kill pushed the score to 18-14, and Sia Liilii sealed the set at 24-18 with a crucial kill, allowing Nevada to take the first set 25-19. 

The second set was a battle with both teams exchanging points. Chainey continued her strong performance with impactful kills, including one to tie the score at 13-13 and another that edged Nevada ahead at 15-14. Gabby McLaughlin's back-row attack brought the score to 17-16, and her aces at 19-20 and 21-20 demonstrated her poise under pressure. Dressel's timely kill and Tehya Maeva's block saved set points as the game extended into extra points. Despite their efforts, San Diego State edged out Nevada 31-29 in a tightly contested frame.  

Nevada rebounded in the third set with momentum fueled by Singleton's ace at 3-2 and a block by Liilii at 4-2. Bernard's strong serving and Maeva's well-placed sets allowed Nevada to extend their lead to 8-3. Chainey's kill at 21-14 kept the Pack in control. Liilii delivered back-to-back kills to close out the set, giving Nevada a 25-19 victory. 

The fourth set remained tight until pivotal plays began to swing the momentum. Chainey's kill at 11-8 and Maeva's ace at 13-10 helped Nevada maintain a narrow lead. Masyn Navarro added an ace at 15-13, while McLaughlin's solo block at 17-14 and a combined block by Snyder and Liilii at 18-14 strengthened their position. McLaughlin's attacking and Maeva's kill pushed Nevada to a 24-18 lead before Liilii secured the final point to win the set 25-19 and the match.

 McLaughlin led the team with 18 kills.  Liilii posted an impressive 14 kills hitting .357 throughout the match. Chainey stood out with her consistent attacks delivering 15 kills especially at decisive points that kept the momentum in Nevada's favor. Maeva's all-around performance included 31 assists, 11 digs, and crucial blocks. Singleton ended the night with 16 digs, Navarro with 13, and Bernard with 20 assists. All three also provided pressure from the back line. The team in total tallied eight crucial aces. The Wolf Pack return to Virginia Street Gym for Senior Day on Saturday at noon to host Silver State rivals UNLV for the season home-finale.
