Nevada Hosts Sam Houston In Home Opener

Reno, Nev. - Nevada is en route to open the season at the Lawlor Event Center with a home opener against the Sam Houston State Bearkats.

Sam Houston is looking to start the year strong by building off their CUSA regular season championship from the 2023-24 season. Sam Houston enters the season opener with a veteran-heavy roster, bringing back six players, including four of its top five scorers from last year.  Sam Houston was also picked to earn third place in their respective CUSA conference preseason polls.

This returning group was effective from three-point range, collectively making 127 of 362 attempts at a 35.1 percent clip last season. Guard Lamar Wilkerson leads the charge for the Bearkats, who topped the team's scoring last year, averaging 14.4 points per game. Wilkerson is a significant threat from beyond the arc, hitting 59 of his 151 attempts (34.7 percent), with nearly half of his shots coming from three-point range. The former junior college standout earned a first-team All-Conference USA spot last season and is a strong contender for league MVP honors if Sam Houston aims to retain its regular-season title.

Nevada and Sam Houston last met on November 28, 2022, at the Lawlor Event Center, where the Wolf Pack claimed a decisive 78-60 victory. Given the many returning players on both sides, Sam Houston will likely be hungry for a different outcome in Reno this time. Following this clash with the Bearkats, Nevada will stay home to face the Washington Huskies for their next matchup at Lawlor Event Center.

The game will be broadcast on NSN, with play-by-play being presented by John Ramey and Len Stevens. The radio broadcast audio is simulcast on the network for both radio and TV audiences on NSN. Fans in Northern Nevada can listen to all Nevada men's basketball games on terrestrial radio at 95.5 FM KNEV. Additionally, all games are available online through the Varsity Network app and are accessible from any location with internet access.
