Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Nevada women's basketball had a thrilling overtime win on Thursday, taking down UC Santa Barbara, 80-73, with
Audrey Roden hitting 1,000 career points.
In a buzzer-beater to bring the game into halftime, Roden grabbed a rebound with just seconds left and knocked down the put-back to record her 1,000th point of her career. She also led the team with nine rebounds.
Dymonique Maxie and
Izzy Sullivan both also had a record night. Sullivan led the Wolf Pack with a career high 24 points, while Maxie had a career high 14 points.
Kennedy Lee tied her career high with 18 points, while grabbing eight rebounds.
The opening 10 was slow for the Pack as they tried to find their rhythm. After hitting the fifth point, shots stopped falling in favor of Nevada. The offense of the Gauchos pulled away and the Wolf Pack found themselves with ground to cover, down 20-8 after one.
Nevada bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring UCSB, 24-11. Maxie got the comeback going with a three to open the quarter. Later in the 10, the Wolf Pack went on an eight-point run to bring them within one. The Gauchos went back up by four before the Pack cut into the lead again and eventually jumped in front for the first time in the game off a jumper by
Victoria Davis.
The teams went back-and-forth trading the lead until there were three seconds left in the half and Roden gave Nevada the one point advantage.
The remainder of regulation continued on just as the first half had ended. Nevada and UCSB battled for the lead, the Wolf Pack extending it to as much as 12 at one point, before the Gauchos closed the gap.
Nevada was holding a three-point lead with less than 45 seconds to go in regulation until UC Santa Barbara tied it up and forced the game into OT.
Despite the Gauchos scoring the first points of the extra time, the Pack took back control off a three by Lee, and never gave up the lead again, ultimately getting the win.
Nevada will have eight days until its next game, hosting Weber State on Nov 22nd at 6:30 PM.
