Nevada Athletics on a Mission to Showcase Reno, Surrounding Area as Nevada’s College Town

RENO, Nev. — In a bold initiative to strengthen the bond between the Wolf Pack and the broader community, the University of Nevada Athletics Department and area business leaders are on a mission to affirm Reno and the surrounding area as Nevada's College Town. Part of this initiative is to celebrate Wolf Pack Fridays by having Wolf Pack flags hanging in front of homes and businesses throughout the region. Now, thanks to the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN), flags will be prominently displayed in every school in the Washoe County School District.

"We appreciate the partnership with EDAWN to provide Wolf Pack flags to all WCSD schools and grateful for the enthusiastic response from school administrators," said Nevada Athletics Director Stephanie Rempe. "This effort aims to help nurture the academic aspirations of students and foster cultures that strive for higher education while at the same time build support for the University and pride in the Wolf Pack. Collectively, we are making a positive impact that ripples through the region."

Rempe, who has been at the helm of Wolf Pack Athletics for a little over two years and has made a priority of celebrating the things that make Northern Nevada special---the culture, historical and natural richness, a deep sense of service and community, all of which contribute to making Reno the "Happiest City in America"—and growing Pack pride. "Reno's identity as Nevada's College Town is more than just a title; it's a call to action for our community to come together to support our amazing institution," she said. "By partnering with EDAWN, we're not only promoting school spirit but also reinforcing the connection between our schools and the University, and inspiring future generations to 'Run with the Pack.'"

Taylor Adams, CEO of EDAWN, emphasized the importance of this partnership in cultivating a robust educational and economic ecosystem. " EDAWN fully supports the Nevada's College Town Initiative because it's critical to the future of our economy," Adams said. "We have nationally competitive sites and a business-friendly corporate code, but without a skilled workforce we won't be able to attract the quality of employer our community deserves. Our goal is to route every graduate of the University of Nevada into one of our employers here in Northern Nevada, and our success in this area hinges on the willingness of our local companies to visibly support the University."

The Nevada's College Town initiative aligns with the University's ongoing efforts to enhance community engagement and foster a college-going culture throughout Northern Nevada. In addition to proudly displaying Wolf Pack flags, residents are also encouraged to show their support by wearing silver and blue Wolf Pack gear every Friday and cheering for the Pack, further solidifying Reno's image as a hub for academic excellence and community spirit..
