RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball returns to Lawlor Events Center to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the University of Nevada on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. when it takes on Utah State.
The Pack is currently sitting in fourth place in the Mountain West standings, winning five out of its last seven games.
Wednesday's game will be available to watch on Nevada Sports Net and the Mountain West Network and available to listen on KPLY 630 AM. Emmy award-winning broadcaster Larry Burnett will be on the radio play-by-play once again for Nevada women's basketball, where fans can also listen online through the Varsity Network.
NAT IS BACK
After a season-ending knee injury in 2022-23, redshirt sophomore Natalie Lathrop has been an added lift to Nevada's post presence. Lathrop is coming off a career-high eight points off 57 percent shooting Jan. 27 at UNLV. Lathrop, a two-time Mountain West Scholar Athlete, currently leads the Pack in field goal percentage.
EXCITEMENT BREWING
Nevada women's basketball attendance has been on the rise in 2023-24. Nevada is currently fourth in the Mountain West in average home game attendance. During the Jan. 23 "When I Grow Up Game", the attendance of 6,995 fans was the second-highest attended game in program history.
STRONG START
After being predicted to finish eighth in the conference in the preseason poll, Nevada has lifted itself into fourth place with a 5-3 start in Mountain West play. Nevada has won five of its first eight Mountain West games for the second time in the last three years and is in the hunt for its first regular season conference title in the NCAA Era. Playing in front of the second-largest crowd in program history of 6,995 fans Jan. 23, the Pack's defense forced Colorado State into 15 turnovers and five assists in a 78-51 win over the Rams. Colorado State, who is second nationally in assist/turnover ratio and was ranked 81 in the NET rankings, is Nevada's first win over a top 100 team in the NET rankings this season.
SEEKING HISTORY
Nevada women's basketball is seeking several firsts during the 2023-24 season. The Pack are currently in fourth place in the Mountain West standings and are only two games back out of the conference lead. If Nevada were to win the regular season title, it would be the Pack's first regular season conference championship in the NCAA Era. A No. 3 seed or higher in the Mountain West Championships would be Nevada's highest seed under head coach Amanda Levens. Nevada's highest seed in the conference tournament came in 2014 as a No. 3 seed under Jane Albright.
SCOUTING UTAH STATE
Utah State is looking to end a 13-game losing streak, with its last win coming Nov. 25. The Aggies are scoring 55.5 points per game while giving up an average of 71.1 points per game to its opponents. Utah State, however, thrives going to the free throw line, making over 12 free throws per game.
Cheyenne Stubbs leads the Utah State offense with 15.7 points per game while leading the team in rebounds with 3.9 rebounds per game. Stubbs also leads the team in steals (34) and assists (41) while knocking down 34 3-pointers.
