ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Nevada Men's Basketball team was unable to earn back-to-back victories over ranked opponents this week, as they fell on the road to #25 New Mexico Sunday evening by a final score of 89-55.
Following the loss, Nevada owns a record of 16-5 this season, including a mark of 3-4 in Mountain West play.Â
In a raucous environment, Nevada struggled on both ends of the court, as they shot just 33.9 percent from the field and 23.5 percent from behind the arc, while in turn allowing New Mexico to complete the game with clips of 58.6 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc.
Nevada had a season-high in turnovers with 15, and the Lobos scored 25 points off the Pack's turnovers.Â
Jarod Lucas and Kenan Blackshear led Nevada in scoring, posting nine points apiece. Tre Coleman chipped in seven, and K.J. Hymes and Nick Davidson added in six points each.Â
Nevada's bench had a solid performance, scoring 18 points in the game. Tylan Pope and Hunter McIntosh each posted five points, while Tyler Rolison scored four.Â
Nevada scored 26 points in the paint, and scored 13 second chance points on 12 offensive rebounds.
The Pack never led in the contest, as they trailed throughout the entire game.Â
First Half
In a hostile environment with just over 15,000 fans in attendance, Nevada got off to a slow start, as New Mexico built a 10-0 lead in the first 3:21.
The Pack outscored UNM, 8-5, over the next 3:44 to cut the deficit to seven points; but, New Mexico used an 8-0 run to extend their advantage up to 15 points, as they held a 23-8 lead over the Pack at the 10:55 mark.Â
The Lobos maintained a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the first half, and Nevada entered halftime trailing 38-24.Â
Second Half
New Mexico was able to increase their advantage up to 18 points three separate times over the first 4:03 of the second half; however, Nevada battled back.Â
Trailing 48-30 with 15:57 to go in the game, the Pack went on a 14-5 run over the next five minutes and 46 seconds to get within nine points.
Unfortunately, that was as close as Nevada would get, as the Lobos hit back-to-back 3-pointers to end the Pack's run and push their lead back up to 15 points.Â
Nevada went on to fall to New Mexico, ending a nine-game win streak against the Lobos.
