Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Pack opens dual schedule with 4-3 victory over UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Nevada men's tennis starts the spring season 1-0, propelled by doubles sweep and lineup depth.

The Wolf Pack started the afternoon by winning the doubles point on the back of three strong performances. At No. 3, Loris Zisswiller and Freshman Rémy Trégourès dominated Diogo Tinoco and Eric Silberman, 6-1, to take the first doubles match for the Pack. At No. 1, Senior Matheo Coupu and Sophomore Greg Valente defeated UC San Diego's Pelayo Rodriguez and Zach Pellouchoud, securing the doubles point for Nevada. Rounding out the doubles slate, Juniors Youssef Kadiri and Edgar Destouet were en route to a win of their own before their match against William Lan and Carson Lee was cut short, 5-3, unfinished.

At No. 1, Coupu began singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Lee, giving the Pack a 2-0 lead. UC San Diego pulled back a point with Rodriguez's 6-3, 6-4 win against Destouet at No. 3. The Pack struck back as Valente overcame a 0-6 first-set loss to Lan, before winning sets two and three 6-2 and 6-2. UC San Diego tied the dual with back-to-back victories at the Nos. 4 and 2. Charles Qian defeated Zisswiller 7-6 (6), 7-5, with Tinoco downing Kadiri 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 shortly after. Nevada took the clinching point when Trégourès defeated Pellouchoud 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in his collegiate dual debut.

Nevada will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. next weekend to take on No. 14 Michigan, January 27 at 6 A.M. The Pack will then face either No. 9 Stanford or Memphis, based on Saturday's result.
