LOGAN, Utah - Scoring a season-high 89 points and shooting 49.2 percent, Nevada women's basketball collected its third Mountain West win with an 89-47 victory at Utah State Wednesday night.
Nevada, who is now 3-0 on the road in the Mountain West this season, scored its most points in a Mountain West game since March 5, 2018 (96 vs. San Diego State - Mountain West Championships first round). The Pack finished the final 20 minutes of play scoring 59 points and shooting 63 percent from the floor.
Senior forward Lexie Givens led Nevada with her second double-double of the season and fifth career double-double overall with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Fifth year guard Claire Jacobs matched a season-high 18 points while senior guard Victoria Davis added 13 points. Junior guard Audrey Roden collected her 100th career assist in the first quarter en route to five assists on the night.
After Roden's 100th career assist led freshman guard Izzy Sullivan to the opening basket, junior guard Kaylee Borden came off the bench to score a fastbreak bucket to swing the advantage to Nevada. Utah State quickly answered with a basket of its own, but Nevada went on a 6-0 scoring run to move ahead 12-6 to close the period.
Davis knocked down a 3-pointer to open the second quarter, hitting another one minutes later to put Nevada ahead by double digits. Nevada forced Utah State into three turnovers in the final two minutes of the first half, with Jacobs capitalizing with consecutive baskets to put the Pack ahead by 14 going into the locker room.
Just as they did in the first half, Nevada continued to put its foot on the gas pedal and maintain momentum.
After opening the third quarter with a quick 5-0 scoring run, Nevada knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to grab a 22-point edge. Following a Utah State basket, Givens and fifth year guard/forward Kaylen Banwareesingh knocked down shots from beyond the arc. Givens capped off an 11-0 scoring run by converting a layup after getting the steal.
Utah State looked to chip away at the deficit before the final period with a pair of free throws, but Nevada would be the one to land the last strike. A 3-pointer from Jacobs from NBA range just before the buzzer allowed Nevada to go up 61-29 heading into the fourth quarter. Nevada finished with 31 points in the quarter, its most in any period this season.
The Pack continued to stay out in front of Utah State, with sophomore forward Kennedy Lee (nine fourth quarter points) and Borden (seven fourth quarter points) leading the offense for Nevada in the final period. Nevada shot 52.9 percent in the fourth quarter and scored 28 points to cap off its third road win in Mountain West play in 2024.
Nevada returns home to Lawlor Events Center Saturday to face Fresno State at 1 p.m., hosting its annual Pride Day game.
