Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Nevada women’s basketball’s second half comeback comes up short against Air Force

RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball nearly pulled off a 20-point comeback Wednesday night at Lawlor Events Center, but Air Force hung on to clinch the 75-71 win.

Sophomore forward Kennedy Lee led Nevada in scoring off the bench with 14 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Victoria Davis also added 13 points off the bench en route to her 500th career point while senior forward Lexie Givens scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Freshman guard Izzy Sullivan scored 10 points in her second collegiate start.

Nevada took the early 8-6 lead, but Air Force forced the Pack into seven turnovers to go on a 14-0 scoring run for the double-digit lead. Air Force ended the quarter on a 19-5 scoring run and went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc to take a double-digit lead.

The Falcons scored early to maintain their double-digit lead before a 3-pointer by Sullivan and back-to-back baskets from Lee cut the deficit to seven points. Air Force, however, finished the period shooting 43.8 percent and closed the first half hitting eight of its 10 3-pointers to take a 15-point lead into the locker room.

Air Force continued its momentum in the third period, moving ahead by 20 in the first two minutes of the quarter. After scoring six unanswered points, Nevada continued to claw its way back into the game. Davis hit a 3-pointer and followed that up with a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to single digits heading into the final period.

Opening the final period with consecutive baskets, Air Force stretched its lead to 16 points. A second chance basket by Air Force allowed the Falcons to maintain a 71-59 lead with 2:39 left in regulation.

Even with the time winding down and a double-digit lead, Nevada refused to fold.

The Pack went on a one-minute, seven-point run that cut the deficit to four points following a Davis 3-pointer. After forcing an Air Force missed jumper, Nevada was unable to capitalize on its next possession to give the ball back to the Falcons.

Nevada quickly came up with a turnover, with Lee snatching the offensive rebound to make it a two-point game with 14 seconds left. Air Force, however, made all of its final four free throws to hang onto their lead and grab the road win.

The Pack go on the road to face San Jose State Saturday at 2 p.m.
