Nevada sweeps Eastern Washington 3-0

CHENEY, Wash. – After dropping their first match of the day 3-0 to the Pacific Tigers, Nevada bounced back to claim their second win of the season and their first win of the weekend against Eastern Washington Friday evening at the Eastern Washington Invitational.

Leading the offense, both Nicanora Clarke and Sia Liilii reached double digits in kills with 14 and 13 respectively. Jaclyn Sanchez led the Pack with 29 assists and Hikialani Kaohelaulii led with 16 digs.

The Pack came out firing on a 5-2 run against the Eagles to open the first set, with kills from Schwartz, Liilii and Clarke, along with the Pack's first service ace of the evening from Clarke. Eastern Washington tried to close the gap, inching within four after going on a 5-0 run late in the first set to bring the score to 20-16, but Nevada continued to look for ways to answer. Two errors by the Eagles, a kill by Schwartz, and the Pack's third service ace by Kaohelaulii forced Eastern Washington to call timeout as Nevada led 23-17. The last four points of the first set were split between both teams as the Eagles tried to keep their hopes alive in the first set, but the Pack pulled away enough to claim the first set 25-19.

Nevada kept their momentum going into the second set, starting off on a 2-0 run with back-to-back kills by Clarke and Liilii. The Eagles tied it all up at 2-2 before the Pack went on a 4-0 run to extend their lead by four, 6-2. Throughout the set, Eastern Washington kept the score within one as the Eagles continued to tie up the match on every attempt. Coming down to the wire, Eastern Washington tied things up at 25-25 a piece after Nevada reached set point first from an attack error by the Eagles. Thanks to a kill by Sanchez and another error by Eastern Washington, the Pack claimed the set 27-25 to put themselves up 2-0 heading into the third set.

For the third consecutive time this match, the Pack opened the set scoring the first point. After Nevada went up 3-2, it was all Eastern Washington, as they responded with a 5-0 run to take the lead 7-3 over the Pack. Nevada tied it all up at 11-11 with Clarke's second service ace of the match. A 6-2 run by the Eagles continued to extend their lead over the Pack with the help of three kills and two service aces back-to-back to put Eastern Washington up 17-13. Kills from Sia Liilii and back-to-back kills from Emilie Parker along with two errors by Eastern Washington brought the Pack up to tie the Eagles 18-18.
