Canadian Exhibition Tour: Day 3

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - An off day from basketball meant exploring some of the sights Vancouver had to offer on Saturday.

After winning its first exhibition game of the tour the previous night, the Pack slept in before driving off to the city for its fun-filled day. Director of Operations Shea Mead gave every player, coach and staff member Canadian per diem to take care of lunch and have souvenir money.

This was the first time many of the student-athletes had seen what a Canadian dollar looked like, surpassing freshman Dymonique Maxie's expectations.

"I loved the color and I researched the people on the dollar," Maxie said. "I don't plan on spending it. I'm keeping it as a souvenir."

The day kicked off with one of the team's favorite activities besides basketball: shopping. Nevada took its first stop on Granville Island, where team members explored the unique, local shops, street performers and the majestic views of the bay and city.

Robson Street was next, where the team found its string of familiar shops like Lululemon, Foot Locker and Aritzia. Players once again found great deals on unique items that they look forward to taking back to the United States.

"The shopping was fun," fifth year Claire Jacobs said. "I went around with Hannah (Hartley) and we enjoyed trying to figure out what the price of the Canadian coins were. I got a super cute skirt from Zara."

Kitsilano Beach was the site for the afternoon, experiencing similar and different activities from the ones that are offered in Lake Tahoe. Some members enjoyed the water while others took turns at kayaking in the English Bay. Most of the team, however, carried its competitive edge on the beach volleyball court and played five consecutive matches before taking time to relax on the beach.

Following dinner, Nevada savored its sweet tooth at La Casa Gelato. Known for being the only place in the world with 238 gelato flavors, Nevada took its sweet time deciding on unique desserts to try and left for Trinity Western University happy and ready for bed.

Nevada will play its second exhibition game of the tour on Sunday at 7:30 p.m., going up against the University of the Fraser Valley. No live stream or live stats will be available, but fans can stay updated by following Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @NevadaWBB.
