Nevada lands six to Athlon Sports Preseason All-Mountain West Teams

RENO, Nev. - Six members of the Nevada football team were recognized on the Athlon Sports Preseason All-Mountain West Teams this week.

Wide receiver Dalevon Campbell, running back Sean Dollars, offensive lineman Isaiah World, and linebacker Drue Watts were named to the Third Team, while kicker Brandon Talton and defensive lineman James Hansen earned spots on the Fourth Team.

Nevada is scheduled to open the 2023 season Saturday, Sept. 2, at USC, and kicks off the six-game home campaign the following week, Sept. 9, against Idaho.

Campbell enters his fifth year in 2023, and his second with the Wolf Pack after transferring in from Illinois ahead of the 2022 season. In his debut campaign in Reno, Campbell appeared in all 12 games, making seven starts, finishing the season with 38 catches for 459 yards and a touchdown. Campbell came on late in the season for the Pack, making eight catches for 79 yards at San José State, before hauling in a 73-yard touchdown catch in a 120-yard performance against Fresno State, then wrapping the season with eight catches for 63 yards at UNLV.

Dollars will make his Nevada debut this fall after transferring from Oregon, where he rushed for 188 yards and a touchdown, and made 16 catches for 143 yards in 2022. With the Ducks from 2019-22, Dollars ran for 326 yards, highlighted by a seven-carry, 52-yard effort in the 2020 Pac-12 Championship Game victory over No. 13 USC, and a 27-yard, one-score game against Stanford in 2022.

World, after redshirting the 2021 campaign, made his on-field debut as a redshirt freshman in 2022, appearing in 11 games and starting the last 10 on the Wolf Pack line. At 6-foot-8, 303 lbs., World is expected to be one of the key anchors to the Pack line in 2023.

Watts earned multiple accolades following his 2022 season, being named All-Mountain West Honorable Mention and to College Football News' (CFN) Freshman All-America Third Team. The Palmdale, Calif., native ranked second on the team in sacks (3.0) and tackles-for-loss (9.0), and fourth in tackles (57), with an interception. Watts played in all 12 games for the Pack, making nine starts at linebacker, and compiling an eight-game streak with a tackle-for-loss.

Talton, the Mountain West's all-time leader in field goals with 68, enters his fifth season at Nevada in 2023. Talton opened the 2022 campaign well, making six-of-seven field goal attempts, including a 50-yarder against Texas State, before suffering an injury that caused him to miss five games. He made his return Nov. 12 against Boise State, making his 65th-career field goal to become the Mountain West's all-time leader, and went on to wrap the season 10-of-12 on his attempts.

Talton, a two-time All-Mountain West selection (2019-20) and three-time Lou Groza Award semifinalist (2019-21),  is on the cusp of some Nevada career marks entering 2023, as well. He needs just five field goals to overtake Marty Zendejas (1984-87) as the Pack's all-time career leader, and, with 326 career points, is just 60 away from eclipsing Zendejas' Wolf Pack career benchmark of 385.

Hansen made his Nevada debut in 2022 after spending the previous two seasons at Utah State. In his first year in Reno, Hansen appeared in all 12 games, starting six, and finished with 19 tackles including a sack, 3.0 tackles-for-loss, and a forced fumble. Among his top performances in 2022 were making a strip-sack against Texas State, and having a TFL among his five tackles against San Diego State.
