RENO, Nev. - Nevada Women's Golf Head Coach Kathleen Takaishi has been selected to lead Team USA at the 2023 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup this summer in Japan.
The Toyota Junior Golf World Cup is the world's premier junior golf team championship, in which numerous international teams will head to Japan to compete for a world championship.
The event will consist of 54 holes of competition; and, at the completion of play, a new world champion will be crowned.
Spain took home first place at last year's tournament, carding a combined 54-hole score of 417 (-15) to win the event by seven strokes. The United States did not compete in last year's tournament, and they will seek to earn a world championship under Takaishi's guidance as they return to the world-renowned event this summer.
Takaishi has put together a sensational career as a head coach at the collegiate level, and she has led the Nevada Women's Golf program to unprecedented success over the past few seasons.
Last season, the Pack earned three top-five finishes, including two second-place finishes at the 2021 Ptarmigan Ram Classic and at the 2022 version of The Show at Spanish Trail.
The Pack concluded the season by finishing tied for sixth at the 2022 Mountain West Championships; however, under Takaishi's guidance, Wolf Pack golfers Victoria Gailey and Leah John qualified for the NCAA Regional Round, marking the first time in program history that two golfers were selected to compete in the Regional Round.
This past fall, Takaishi led the Pack to their best fall campaign in program history. Nevada won two of the four tournaments that they competed in and earned a top-three finish in all four events. Gailey earned three consecutive individual titles, and the Pack set a plethora of program records throughout the fall season.
After Nevada wraps up their spring season, Takaishi will aim to achieve a junior world championship this summer at the helm of Team USA.
