Nevada closes weekend at Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Nevada track and field closes out the first meet of the outdoor season in San Diego at the Aztec Invitational Saturday afternoon, coming away with six new personal records, two all-time list marks, five top-10 finishes, and placing 17th out of 25 teams with 16 points.

"We had a good season opening and I'm proud of the way we competed," said head coach Shantel Twiggs. "We saw Halyn Senegal make her debut on the Nevada top-10 list at number four, and Rayven Nealey continues to move up the Nevada all-time list in the long jump with a new outdoor personal best. Many opened up ahead of where they did a year ago. We will continue to work hard as we go through the next three weeks and grow as a team."

To start off the day, Rayven Nealey earned a new personal record in the long jump with her mark of 5.92 meters finishing fourth, beating her previous mark of 5.91 meters. This mark now puts her tied for eighth all-time at Nevada in the event. Maria Paz Milani finished 24th with a mark of 5.47 meters, and Isabella Minoletti 45th with her mark of 4.93 meters.

In the 400 meters, Halyn Senegal would secure an eighth-place finish, running a new personal record time of 54.82, which makes her fourth all-time at Nevada in the event. Making her debut for the Pack this season, Carolyn Ross finished 17th in a time of 57.02, also earning a new personal record to beat her previous best of 57.60 from last outdoor season.

This wouldn't be Senegal's only personal record of the day, as she later went on to run a 24.81 in the 200 meters, placing 29th, just missing the 10th spot on the Nevada all-time list by three tenths. Finishing right behind Senegal in 30th was Annalies Kalma, who also ran a new personal record in the event in a time of 24.84, running just under her previous best of 25.07. Bonét Henderson finished 35th (25.04), Carolyn Ross 42nd (25.30), and to round out the group of five Wolf Pack athletes in the event, Sarah Marske finished 50th (25.68).

Nevada's newest addition to the squad this spring Kylee Denver ran a new personal record in the 800 meters, in a time of 2:18.53 finishing 18th. Her time would smash her previous best by over two seconds. Raegan Gorzeman secured 17th, just one spot ahead of Denver, running a 2:17.61.

In the 400 hurdles, Kylie Burton was the solo representative for the Pack, placing 21st with a time of 1:03.85. Henderson also represented Nevada solo in the 100 meters, finishing 28th with a mark of 12.47. Following suit, Marske's second event of the day featured a 22nd place in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.93, just narrowly off her personal record of 14.24, where she currently holds the 10th all-time mark at Nevada in the event, earned from last outdoor season.

Emily Poole and Isabella Steerman got to make their season debut in the javelin, both earning respective marks for the first meet of the season. Poole finished in 8th, with a mark of 42.01 meters, while Steerman finished just outside the top-10 in 13th, with a mark of 39.86. Both were off their personal records by only three meters.

In the pole vault event, Camrin Dolcini, Samantha Irwin, and Hannah Watson all secured top-20 finishes for the Pack. Dolcini, who competed in the pole vault invite section tied for 14th place with her mark of 3.72 meters. Watson (3.42m) and Irwin (3.22m), finished 17th and 19th respectively.

Wrapping up the afternoon, Nealey, Paz Milani, and Minoletti competed in the triple jump, with Nealey and Paz Milani moving on to the final of the event. Ultimately, Nealey (12.49m) would finish sixth, her second top-10 finish of the day, while Paz Milani (12.02m) finished ninth. Minoletti (10.50m) earned a season best mark, finishing 24th.
