RENO, Nev. – The Nevada diving squad is set for the NCAA E Zone Diving Championships March 6-8 in Federal Way, Wash.
To qualify for the NCAA Championships, a diver must finish in the top six in the 1-meter, top eight in the 3-meter springboard, or top tenth in the platform event. Prelims of the E Zone Diving Championships are set to start at 11:30 a.m.
After another great performance in the 2023 Mountain West Championships, Laura Isabel Vazquez Lopez, Melissa Mirafuentes, Bailey Heydra, and Lucia Gabinowill be representing the Pack in the Zone E championships. Nevada will have representatives competing in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard and in the platform event.
Gabino comes off from the Mountain West Championships with two gold medals in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events. The sophomore was also in 12th place in the platform event and was selected Diver of the Meet.
Heydra and Mirafuentes represented the Pack in the finals in all the events. In the 1-meter springboard, Mirafuentes took second place with 347 points, while Heydra finished in third with 338.85 points. In the 3-meter, Heydra placed second with 360.85, while Mirafuentes was fourth with 335.65 points. On the final day, Mirafuentes followed Vazquez to the podium with a third-place finish with a score of 276.50, while Heydra picked fifth place.
Vazquez got fourth place with a 329.50 in the 1-meter springboard. In the 3-meter, the senior represented the Pack in the consolation final to finish the event in 10th place with a score of 282.30. On the last day of the championship, Vazquez picked up her first medal with second place in the platform with a score of 299.30.
