RENO, Nev. - Nevada swimmer
Benedict Nagy has qualified to compete at the 2023 NCAA Championships. The championships will be held March 15-18 at Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.
"Participation at the NCAA swimming and diving championships is the peak of our sport at the college level," says head coach
Brendon Bray. "It is an absolute honor to be represented at the meet and is rare at the mid-major level. Benny is now part of a rich history of Nevada swimmers and divers competing at the NCAA, and just like
Donna dePolo for the last two seasons, it is extra special because Benny grew up in Northern Nevada. Benny has put in incredible work the past four seasons to get to this point, and her success is all because of the effort she has put into her sport."
"It is an outstanding achievement for her to have the best races of her life during her last season here at Nevada and to have her best conference race which she won by tenths of a second in the 400 IM to qualify her for the National championships. I know our recent alumni and current and past coaching staffs who were close with Benny over the past 4 years all had a part in her success, but she deserves all the credit for this outstanding achievement. We will keep our fingers crossed that her diving teammates have success at Zone E meet this weekend to join her on the trip."
Nagy's results at the 2023 Mountain West Championships in the 400 IM earned her a spot at the NCAA Championships. Nagy's 400 IM time of 4:11.29 puts her at 37th in the nation. Nagy was the Mountain West Champion for the third consecutive year in the event.
As for now, Nagy is the only Nevada student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships. The divers will compete at the NCAA E Zone Diving Championship in Federal Way, Wash. looking for a shot at qualifying for the NCAA Championships, March 6-8.
