TEMPE, Ariz. - Nevada put up a valiant battle, but fell, 4-1, to No. 32 Arizona State Friday in the opening round of the ASU 8-Team Tournament in Tempe.

Nevada (1-5) will now face New Mexico State Saturday at 12 p.m. PT.

Friday, the Pack took it to Arizona State, as Youssef Kadiri Hassani's 6-3, 7-6 (3) straight-sets victory over Jacob Bullard brought Nevada within 2-1. The four remaining matches all featured Wolf Pack players taking a set, and were headed to tight three-set finishes, but things would break the way of the Sun Devils (6-2).

Delmas N'Tcha took the first set, 7-5, from Max McKennon at No. 2, but McKennon came back to win the next two sets, 6-2 and 6-1, to secure the third point for the Sun Devils. At No. 6, Loris Zisswiller battled back to take the second set from Spencer Brachman, but Brachman clinched the match for Arizona State with a victory in the third set, for a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 win.

Matheo Coupu and Satchel Benn, at Nos. 3 and 5, respectively, had each captured a set before their matches went unfinished with Brachman's clincher.
