FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State outscored Nevada women's basketball 26-12 in the fourth quarter to defeat the Pack 58-55 on Saturday at Save Mart Center.
Junior guard Victoria Davis led Nevada with 14 points while junior guard Alyssa Jimenez added 12 points and sophomore guard Audrey Roden chipped in 11 points.
Nevada jumped out to a fast start in the first quarter, scoring seven unanswered points led by two baskets from Davis. Stretching its lead to double-digits following a pair of baskets by Davis and forward Megan Ormiston, the graduate student Ormiston followed suit with a 3-pointer to extend Nevada's lead 15-2. Following another jumper by Ormiston, Fresno State scored two consecutive buckets to cut Nevada's lead to single digits after the first 10 minutes.
A back-and-forth battle was the storyline for the second quarter, with Fresno State hitting a basket that cut the deficit to seven points. Consecutive jumpers by Jimenez allowed Nevada to push ahead by 11 late in the first half, but Fresno State knocked down a jumper with eight seconds to make it a single digit deficit going into the locker room.
Two free throws from junior forward Lexie Givens and a 3-pointer by Roden allowed the Pack to open the third period with a 13-point lead. Nevada sustained its double-digit lead for the remainder of the third quarter, with Fresno State knocking down a pair of free throws after a Givens layup to make it an 11-point game heading into the final period.
Using 72.7 percent fourth quarter shooting, Fresno State stormed all the way back. The Bulldogs went on an 8-0 scoring run to take a 53-51 lead late in the fourth quarter. Davis quickly responded by knocking down the game-tying jumper with just over one minute to play.
Fresno State regained the lead with 36 seconds to go after converting a layup and made a free throw to extend the lead to three points. Nevada drew a foul off a 3-pointer, hitting two out of three free throws to make it a one-point game. Two more free throws by Fresno State with six seconds left pushed the lead back out to three points, with Nevada's last chance opportunity no good to give the Bulldogs the win.
Nevada continues its road trip next week, going to Wyoming on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
