Nevada women’s basketball heads to Berkeley, faces Cal Saturday

BERKELEY, Calif. - Nevada women's basketball continues its road trip and faces Cal at Haas Pavilion Saturday at 2 p.m.

Saturday's game will be available to watch on the Cal Live Stream and available to listen on KPLY 630 AM. Emmy award-winning broadcaster Larry Burnett will be on the radio play-by-play once again for Nevada women's basketball, where fans can also listen online through the Varsity Network.

DYNAMITE DYMO
Nevada freshman guard Dymonique Maxie shined in her collegiate debut. Maxie recorded nine steals Nov. 9 against Sacramento State, the second-most by a Nevada player in a single game in the NCAA Era. She was the first Nevada freshman to start a season opener since the 2019-20 season. Maxie recently had a career-high eight rebounds in Nevada's overtime win over Central Arkansas Nov. 25. She is currently in the top 40 nationally in steals with 23.

NAT IS BACK
Redshirt sophomore forward Natalie Lathrop overcame great adversity by coming back from a season-ending knee injury sustained in 2022-23. Lathrop scored her first basket since March 7, 2022 on Nov. 17 against Pepperdine and finished a strong layup in the second quarter following a Gabby Giuffre 3-pointer to widen Nevada's lead to double-digits. She finished with a career-high seven points Nov. 17. In her first collegiate start Dec. 6 at Weber State, Lathrop grabbed a career-high eight rebounds and blocked three shots.

STRONG START
Nevada wrapped up November with a 5-2 record following a 76-63 win over San Diego Nov. 29. The Pack had a three-game winning streak earlier this season, already surpassing any win streak last season. This is the second time in the last two years Nevada has begun the season with five wins in its first eight games.

SWEET STEALS
Nevada women's basketball has made getting steals and forcing turnovers a part of their early identity. The Pack are currently sixth in the nation and first in the Mountain West in steals, averaging 13.1 steals per game. Nevada is also in the top 30 in the nation in turnover margin with an average of 6.0. The 23 steals Nov. 9 are the fourth-most by a Wolf Pack squad in a single game in the NCAA Era.

SCOUTING CAL
Cal women's basketball is off to a 7-2 start and is coming off a remarkable game Thursday against No. 23 Gonzaga. The Golden Bears took the nationally ranked Bulldogs to overtime, where Gonzaga finished the game outscoring Cal 13-5 in the final five minutes.

Ioanna Krimili and Marta Suarez are a dynamic scoring duo for the Golden Bears, with both putting up 15 points per game to start the season. Leilani McIntosh adds scoring depth with 11.9 points per game and leads the team in assists with 61. Cal has outscored its opponents by an average of over 13 points per game thus far.
