Nevada women's basketball starts two-game homestand Wednesday against USD

RENO, Nev. - Nevada women's basketball begins a two-game homestand starting Wednesday at 1 p.m. against San Diego at Lawlor Events Center.

Wednesday's game will be available to watch on Nevada Sports Net/Mountain West Network and available to listen on KPLY 630 AM. Emmy award-winning broadcaster Larry Burnett will be on the radio play-by-play once again for Nevada women's basketball, where fans can also listen online through the Varsity Network.

Wednesday's game is Faculty & Staff Day, where the game will highlight the hard work and dedication of the University of Nevada faculty and staff. Half-priced concessions will be available until halftime for all university faculty and staff with a WolfCard. Tickets start at just $5 for youth online and $7 for adults online.

SWEET STEALS
Nevada women's basketball has made getting steals and forcing turnovers a part of their early identity. The Pack are currently ninth in the nation in steals, averaging over 13 steals per game. Nevada is also in the top 40 in the nation in turnover margin with an average of 6.5. The 23 steals Nov. 9 are the fourth-most by a Wolf Pack squad in a single game in the NCAA Era.

GABBY GETTING IT DONE
With her first four career starts coming in Nevada's last four games, senior guard Gabby Giuffre has been an added force for the Pack in the 2023-24 season. Giuffre led Nevada with her first career double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 73-62 win over South Alabama Nov. 24 in the University of Denver Classic. She finished with a career-high in points and rebounds while going 4-for-5 from 3-point range. Giuffre will have even more added motivation in Wednesday's game, starting her collegiate career at San Diego.

CLUTCH CLAIRE
Nevada added more scoring in its arsenal in two-time All-Atlantic 10 player Claire Jacobs (La Salle). Prior to being La Salle's leading scorer this past year, Jacobs reached the 1,000-point milestone during the 2021-22 season. She became the 27th player in program history to score 1,000 points and the third-fastest La Salle student-athlete to hit that mark. Jacobs scored 14 of her 18 points in the second half and knocked in the game-winning shot in overtime with one second left in Nevada's overtime win against Central Arkansas Nov. 25. She was named to the University of Denver Classic All-Tournament Team for her efforts.

THE GREAT GIVENS
Nevada's Lexie Givens has been one of Nevada's most consistent players in the last four years. Givens, who averaged 10.5 points per game last season, was Nevada's leading rebounder in 2022-23 with a 6.4 rebounds per game mark. She began the year by accumulating eight steals in the season opener, the fourth-most by a Nevada player in a single game in the NCAA Era. Givens accumulated a career-high five blocks Nov. 25 against Central Arkansas, good for the top 10 in a single game in program history en route to being named to the University of Denver Classic All-Tournament Team.

AWESOME AUDREY
Audrey Roden, a member of the 2021-22 Mountain West All-Freshman Team, returns to Nevada for her junior season. She started the season by registering her fifth career 20-point game by dropping 21 in the season opener Nov. 9 and has averaged 19 points per game to start the season. As a sophomore, Roden finished in the top 20 in the Mountain West in scoring average in conference games. The West Linn, Oregon, native scored in double figures 15 times in 2022-23, including three 20-point outings. She also became the third Nevada sophomore to reach 500 career points under head coach Amanda Levens. Roden is currently in the top 30 nationally in steals and second in the Mountain West with 18.

SCOUTING SAN DIEGO
San Diego has started the season with a 3-3 record, most recently falling short to Nevada rival, UNLV, in its Thanksgiving Tournament. Despite losing three out of its last four games, San Diego has outscored its opponents by an average of four points per game. San Diego has also won the rebounding battle against the opposition by an average of 2.5 rebounds per game.

Kasey Neubert leads the team with 12.5 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game. Veronica Sheffey also is a key player to watch, averaging 10.8 points per game while leading the team with 27 assists and 11 steals.
