SERIES HISTORY
Nevada leads the all-time series over UNLV, 28-20, although the Rebels possess the Fremont Cannon after last November's 27-22 victory in Las Vegas. The Wolf Pack is 15-9 all-time against UNLV at Mackay Stadium.
ABOUT UNLV
UNLV (4-1, 1-0 MW), with head coach Barry Odom in his first season at the helm, is 4-1 on the year and opened Mountain West play with a 44-20 victory over Hawai'i Sept. 30. The Rebels are led by a ground attack which features Jai'den Thomas (273 yards, seven touchdowns) and Vincent Davis (256 yards, one TD), while Ricky White (23 catches, 319 yards) and Jacob De Jesus (18 receptions, 189 yards, two TDs) are the receivers to watch. FINALLY BACK HOME
This week's game against UNLV is Nevada's first at home since Sept. 16, a span of four weeks. Nevada was one of a small handful of teams around the country playing a heavy away slate in the first half of the campaign.
The Wolf Pack is one of just six schools that will play just three homes games within its first eight contests of the season.
THE BATTLE FOR THE FREMONT CANNON
Nevada and UNLV will battle Saturday for the heaviest rivalry trophy in college football: the 545-lb. Fremont Cannon.
Nevada has won 13 of the past 18 meetings between the teams, dating back to 2005. During that span, 10 of the Wolf Pack's 13 wins have come by more than seven points, while all five of its losses have come by less than a touchdown.
Last year, UNLV took possession of the cannon for the first time since 2019, holding off the Wolf Pack from inside the five-yard line in the final seconds to preserve a 27-22 victory.
WILSON'S RECORD IN THE GAME
Nevada head coach Ken Wilson is hardly any stranger to The Battle for the Fremont Cannon. While 2022 was his first chapter of the rivalry as the Wolf Pack's head coach, he took part in 19 previous meetings as a member of the Nevada coaching staff.
Overall, Wilson is 17-3 against UNLV as a member of the Wolf Pack football coaching staff, going 9-1 during his stint from 1989-98, and 8-1 during his stint from 2004-12, prior to last season's defeat in Las Vegas.
Saturday's meeting will be the first at Mackay Stadium with Wilson as Nevada's head coach--Wilson, as a Wolf Pack assistant coach, is 9-0 at home vs. UNLV.
