Colorado College defeats Nevada soccer in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado College defeated Nevada soccer 2-1 at Stewart Field Thursday night.

Junior midfielder Penny Murphy scored her second goal of the season in the 60th minute off assists from junior midfielder Caly Ah Soon and sophomore defender Maddie Benson. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Ally Larkin recorded five saves in her 10th collegiate match in the net.

Colorado College jumped out to the early lead, with Lily Byrne scoring the first goal in the fourth minute. Byrne collected her second goal of the match seven minutes later to give the Tigers the early 2-0 advantage.

Holding Nevada to just one shot opportunity in the first half, the Tigers carried its lead to the locker room. Nevada, however, was not going down without a fight.

15 minutes into the second half, Benson placed a ball in Soon's territory inside the penalty area. Soon quickly passed to a nearby Murphy, who sunk the ball in the back of the net to get the Pack on the board.

After Larkin prevented Colorado College from getting another goal, Nevada's shot on goal in the 79th minute was saved by the Tigers. Nevada looked to capitalize off its final shot on goal of the night in the 88th minute, but a Colorado College save allowed the Tigers to secure the win.

Nevada goes back on the road Sunday to take on Air Force at 11 a.m.
