LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Wyoming Cowgirls took the 3-0 victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack Thursday evening at the Uniwyo Sports Complex in Laramie. Nevada moves to 6-14 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
Nicanora Clarke and
Sia Liilii led the Pack each recording six kills.
Bella Snyder earned a hitting percentage of .333 on nine attacks, while
Hikialani Kaohelaulii had 12 digs.
In their 16 meetings, the Cowgirls lead the all-time series with a 11-5 record over the Wolf Pack earning the 3-2 victory last season in their most recent meeting prior to this evening. Before Nevada made the trip to Laramie, the Brown and Gold split the last weekend, falling to New Mexico before rebounding in a four-set victory at Air Force Saturday, Oct. 14. Wyoming sits at eighth in the overall Mountain West Standings with a 15-5 overall record and 4-5 in conference play.
The Cowgirls jumped up to an early five-point lead over the Wolf Pack, sitting at 10-5 before Nevada called their first timeout of the set. After the short break, the Pack went on a 5-0 scoring run to tie things up at 10-10 a piece with kills from Clarke and Liilii followed up with a service ace from Liilii and a block assist by Schwartz. Maeva registered a kill, her 17
th on the year, to tie the set 11-11, allowing the Pack to then go up 14-12 after four straight Wyoming errors. The Cowgirls regained the lead 20-15, going on an 8-1 scoring run to force Nevada to call their second timeout of the set. Coming back from the timeout, Wyoming reached set point on a Nevada serving error, ultimately going on to take the set 25-17 after a kill from Wyoming's Corin Carruth.
Following a similar pattern from the first set, the Cowgirls had an early five-point 10-5 lead over Nevada after a 4-0 scoring run helped Wyoming continue their momentum. Nevada called their first timeout of the set after the Cowgirls went up with a six-point lead sitting at 18-13. After the timeout, the Pack came within four after kills by Clarke and Liilii along with a service ace by Liilii, but Wyoming regained an eight-point lead with a 6-0 scoring run to close the second set 25-15, going up 2-0 on the match.
Four service errors by the Cowgirls allowed Nevada to earn a 4-3 lead over Wyoming early in the third set. Moving towards the middle of the set, the score remained tight, each squad not letting the other go up by more than two points. A 4-0 scoring run by Nevada put the Pack up by two at 14-12, forcing Wyoming to call their first timeout of the set. The Cowgirls went on their own 7-0 scoring run, taking another six-point lead, reaching the 20-point landmark. Nevada continued to fight to keep the set alive, but Wyoming took the third set 25-17, sweeping Nevada 3-0 to end the match.
