RENO, Nev. – Nevada track and field sophomore
Camrin Dolcini takes the crown in the College Women section of the 2023 Pole Vault Summit Saturday held at the Reno Livestock Events Center with her height of 13'2" (3.90m), one foot higher than the second-place finisher, and narrowly missing a new personal best.
Â
"Camrin had a great meet considering she's had only one jumping session since she left for winter break," said pole vault coach
Paul Heglar. "Our goal is for her to surpass the school indoor record by the conference championships, so I am so excited for her future."
Â
Dolcini made quite a mark during her freshman indoor season last year. She moved to eighth all-time at Nevada with her mark of 3.82m, her impressive campaign not stopping there. Moving to outdoor season, Dolcini earned a bronze medal at the Mountain West Championships, earning a new personal mark of 4.02m. This mark allowed her to qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary and puts her at fourth all-time at Nevada in the event.
Â
Nevada was also represented in the event by junior
Samantha Irwin and sophomores
Alyssa Carson,
Shayla Pedersen, and
Hannah Watson. Irwin finished tied for seventh, the next highest finish for the Pack in the event.
Â
"Sam Irwin had a good competition, clearing two bars and barely missing a new personal record at 11'3", so I see some big things coming on the horizon," said Heglar. "The rest of the team struggled a bit, but I expect some big jumps from them in the future."
Â
The Pack continues competition next at the Texas Tech Open and Multis in Lubbock, Texas, January 26-28.
