Pack beats New Mexico, advances at MW Championship

TUCSON, Ariz. - Nevada rolled through New Mexico, 4-1, in its opening-round meeting at the Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship Wednesday morning in Tucson.
The Pack (9-10) moves on to Thursday's quarterfinals, where it will face top seed Fresno State at 10 a.m. from El Conquistador Tucson.
Wednesday, Nevada took the early advantage, capturing the doubles point when the doubles tandem of Gabriella Charalampidi and Milka Genkova grinded out a 7-6 (6) tiebreaker win over the Lobo pair of Satoho Toriumi and Sofia Taborga. That win, paired with Mariana Campino and Selina Turulja's 6-4 victory at No. 2, helped the Pack to the 1-0 lead.
The Pack made quick work of things in singles play. Charalampidi got the Pack its second point with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Taborga at No. 6, followed by Campino's 6-3, 6-3 termination of New Mexico's Sarah O'Connor. Turulja clinched the match, and advancement, for Nevada with her 7-5, 6-2 victory over Hsiang-Wen Huang at No. 5.
